Anonymous Coward User ID: 69126982 United States 05/06/2015 05:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That's just Russia's active tanks. They keep something like 40,000+ mothballed. True they are older tanks, many only good for parts. BUT, in an all out war how many of those could Russia get operational in a few months? Yes, they are crap tanks and no match for modern tanks. But they are great for rear guard duties and such. In an invasion you have to leave some equipment and men behind in the cities you take to keep control. Such tanks are great for that. That said, the only conceivable ground war between the US and Russia is in Europe, a continent with it's own tanks and many of which are formidable modern ones. So you must add those to the mix. And the US has mothballed equipment of it's own. About 1/3 of Russia's tanks are modern and would theoretically compete well against the M1 and it's NATO counterparts. The rest aren't so hot, but would be useful. Russia is a continental powerhouse and would unquestionably do very well in the opening weeks of a European invasion. Germany and everything East of her would be likely overran. |

From Ukraine to Finland west to Belgium and Italy? No. The Russians would be experiencing what the Ukrainians are now finding out in E. Ukraine. |

Quoting: However, Russia still lags far behind the United States in total power and many other Western countries in terms of technology, with much of its vast arsenal still made up of ageing Soviet-designed equipment. Quoting: Source: [link to www.telegraph.co.uk] Putin now has 15,000+ tanks on the ground vs. the United States only having 8000+ Good god I wouldn't want to go up against the Russian Bear in a ground war! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Why would any competent engineer with decent moral and scruple values ever work for Russia is beyond me. The most evil and corrupt country and dangerous Country in the World Russia, should have nobody working for them.. N'uff said.. |

Tank to tank battles maybe not, but good lord could you imagine being an infantry man with only a few TOW missles or Javlins with 40,000 rolling at you. |

Secondly, as someone said, during peace time. Thirdly...tanks, without proper air support, artillery, logistics are nothing more than target practice. Fourth. Nukes. The only way the west could regain control of russian occupied berlin, rome, and paris, would be to use tactical nuclear missiles/bombs on those citys, which they would 100% |
