I break out in cold sweat every time I receive mail, e-mail or phonecalls
It's always more bills that I can hardly pay, bad news or really bad news.

I've developed a Pavlovian reaction to all mail and calls.

It makes life quite unbearable.

I think I know what you're going through.

Can you do without phone and computer for a while?

I've been planning to do just that. I still have to check my mail, though, and try to deal with the bills.

My sister was like that a long time ago. She had some financial difficulties, and I helped her out. She moved in with me for a little, and when she got bills in the mail, I would force her to open them. I told her they weren't going to be that bad, and that I was there to help if needed. Once she opened that first bill and realized I was right, she was fine after that. Now she is crazy cautious and responsible with her money.

Face it head on, OP!

Yeah, e-mail is not a problem. I just need to find a way to handle my normal mail and especially the bills that can't wait. I guess I need to leave most of my money to my friend who'll collect the mail and pay the urgent bills for me.

I've been planning to get some time off the work and go camping in the nearby mountains where there aren't any people. I so need that kind of isolation and peace to get my mind back in order.

That's exactly my situation. I have to force myself to open the bills. More and more I just can't bring myself to do it and then the second notices and letters from collection agencies start to pile up, making it a total nightmare.

Sounds great! Don't just plan it, but go for it as soon as you can. I also like to be isolated in the middle of nowhere.

Ask your friend to help you with the bills. If you trust him enough, you might wanna ask him to check your regular mails for you (if it's not too private).

You'll be fine.

Been there too

Then I saw Donald trump on tv talking about in business the smartest thing is knowing when to declare bankruptcy. His daughter talking about leaving a courthouse and him saying those people with nothing are 3+ million richer then us cause that's what we owe and don't have. Obviously he restructure and did tv show and made big comeback.

Personal bankruptcy is a 7 or 13(asset) protection. When u file they put an "automatic stay" on creditors and the harrassment and 800 letters in mail stop. Then you can exhale and go from there. Never let anybody make you feel dirty. First step in being strong is admitting you are weak.

Re: I break out in cold sweat every time I receive mail, e-mail or phonecalls
So funny! I thought I was the only one! Honestly, I became a recluse because of it.

For the last 20 years:

I have no phone at all - not at all - no mobile or any other kind of phone.

I pre-pay my bills once per year and trash my mailbox monthly without a look.

I have no friends - and I like it that way.

I live in a remote location - and I like it that way.

I dedicate myself to Nibbana - and I hope to achieve it.

This world is going to Hell, and I don't want any part of it.

The most I can handle is a chat now-and-then with a woman in a remote land, and an occasional visit to GLP. I sold everything I had, and live on less than $5000/yr in a small cabin - $100,000 will get you thru 20 years at that level. It takes some intelligence to figure out how to live cheap and healthy, but that's the best job you can ever have. It may be difficult, but truly, if you are finding psychological stress from civilization, do everything you can to get away from it - permanently - it will be the best decision you will ever make. The world is really just a stressful illusion. Your spirit is true peace.

I spent 20 years studying law and fighting for freedom and against corruption - but the courts are so corrupt that it's worthless. I say this because guess what made me toss my phone? Crank calls from the court system. They had me on some kind of auto-dial system where a taped message would play, advising me to hire an attorney, and the voice was way retarded - very slow and ugly-creepy sounding. I sold everything I had, and am willing to tolerate any illness, any amount of any kind of suffering just to be away from civilization. I'll pull my own teeth if necessary, and amputate a finger if I had to. Anything civilization has to offer at this time and age is far worse that letting nature take its course!

Set yourself up with a new e-mail address and get another phone with a new number. Use these for friends and non-debt stuff so you know when it rings it's nothing to do with crap you don't want to see.
