That would have to be one hell of a shot. To even hit an open window on a train moving 40mph would be hard but to hit him in a way he falls forward (or whatever way necessary) to change speed would be one in a million. He would be much more likely to hit the plethora of buttons or knobs controlling other things like cutting off the fuel, or opening doors opposed to something usually secured and purposefully hard to change control like the throttle.

Whatever has the force and power to get through the window would probably kill him anyway. Surely we arent talking kids with rocks standing next to the tracks. A rock would probably have to hit him from behind to knock him forward and that would mean the kid would have to throw the rock in the same direction the train is moving.

Everyone's focusing on the Amtrak 601 engineer, but the real person in question (imo) is whoever was engineering the CSX.

Why was he sitting there with lights on?

Why did he disappear, and when, taking at least 10 of the 18 cars with him?

Was he the one who sounded the horn?

How many of you having been suprised by something while you were driving doubled your speed and went off the road?

Maybe saboteurs were monitoring the train comms--maybe they expected the engineers to transmit that they were being shot--was this some kind of radio signal, possibly (to trigger something next in the series of events)?

Is 9:25-9:28 p.m. significant for any reason as a choice to pull this off (well, I suppose if they wanted 601 to be right by the derailer?)

Wrong. Everything that we know suggests it was the engineer's fault: he was doing twice the speed limit, he activated the emergency brake, he called for a lawyer, and he forget everything. Now, I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I smell a rat.
