Have you considered the implications? They can't file bankruptcy because they're a commonwealth. If they were a state, they could get financial relief.

There has been talk in the past about Puerto Rico's statehood. If they become #51, the demographic will be forever skewed towards the dems, and no amount of gerrymandering will change it.
