This is stupid. It's the central peak of a complex crater which forms a fairly small point of light. The hoaxer has deliberately put his telescope slightly out of focus. The bokeh shape for a catadioptric telescope is a donut shape like that. To "morph" it all he has to do is rack the focus slightly.
