Windows 7 Support ends: January 14, 2020

Damn that last line got me. At least 2020 is a few years away and maybe someone will make a linux variant than can game half assedly at least.

There's your problem right there. Many people don't use a free OS because of gaming. Entertainment turned you into addicted slaves.

Who cares about shity games? There's plenty of reality to care about!

The world is crumbling into chaos and these would-be men don't care because they are busy gaming!

If W10 and any subsequent versions they release between now and then are as poorly received as W8 I won't be a bit surprised to see at least one entrepreneurial aftermarketer step in to to offer independent continued support for a fee.

I use and prefer XP most of the time. I use Win7 when I must, and whatever's installed when I'm using others' machines.

I never game, and if I did, I'd set it up on a separate machine with a separate firewall. I'll never allow windows update on any machine, and if I install patches, I'll do it offline. The only thing wrong with XP is that the one with the most utility regarding software is the 32 bit version.

The only reason to use Win7 is that it's the most compatible MS environment at the moment. Linux is going on the machine I'm building now - though I'm not sure of the most useful and versatile version. I've used it before, and it never made it to my primary machine. It's time now, since I'll never install win8 or 10 on anything.

I've never used Microshit "support" for anything, and I've been dealing with their so-called OS for the last 30+ years. If I can't fix it, they generally can't either. Most helpful support these days is on the net.

Just lock your system down tight, with firewall and secured files, then back up everything. Make sure you have install disks for all software and that none needs "activation". If it does, then hack it so your system actually is under your control, not theirs.

Over half my steam library works on linux. Steam has an app on Linux that works just like the client on Windows. I haven't had one issue yet.

Nvidia also has a very robust support of linux.

Don't be scurred.
