Lucky me.......I hope.... I've landed a job in the South Pacific.
My job will be to help maintain a cell phone network on an island in the south pacific. New Zealand is a four hour flight away. I was told it is cheaper to eat like the natives, rice and dried fish, rice and salted fish, sometimes rice and fresh fish, and rice and local pork which could contain parasites, than to buy foods from Australia, new Zealand, and the U.S. also I have been told I'll have to take anti malaria pills while there. my salary for each year will almost be twice what I made in the U.S.,
Car not needed, everyone gets around on mopeds.

I'm having second and third thoughts about my new dream job. I'll be getting away from this Shit hole country, the Welfare Sponge Socialist Dark Peoples Republic of obama. and ill be making more money, ill be in the southern hemisphere so radiation will take longer to reach me after obamaville is nuked.

oh yea, GUNS, only 22.s and shotguns are legal there.

ok GLP, what jewels of wisdom do you have for me ? you have any good recipes for dried and salt fish ? I'm supposed to leave in three weeks.

You actually have it backwards, once you live outside the U.S. you will not want to return. You will find ways to make it work and I guarantee you will not want to leave. Imported food is expensive but From experience you can get enough in your suitcases and even pay and extra bag fee and you will have enough comforts of home to last a year.

hesright

Enjoy the experience, but NOTHING can prepare you for the isolation.
And none of us know how we'll handle it until we do.

WORD OF WARNING...
An Island is like a VERY small town. Word gets around quick, and everyone knows about it.

ONE fugg-up, and you're done. You aren't THEM.

Don't piss off, alienate or disrespect the locals. Other than that, you can buy those Emergency ration foods, or see if you can raise your own chickens.

Re: Lucky me.......I hope.... I've landed a job in the South Pacific.
thank you everyone. I will post pictures after I get settled in. I am supposed to be living in a house with hot and cold running water and flush toilets. that remains to be seen. I will not be surprised if it turns out to be a grass hut with a dirt floor. one thing is for sure, I'm hiring a housekeeper/cook and let her do the cooking and cleaning. if there is no washing machine, she can do my laundry too. updates in a few weeks.

Isolated Island communities are strange and boring.

You can not scratch your ass, sneeze, fart, or belch without everyone in town hearing about it in the gossip mill.

You know everyone and everyone knows you, you see the same people day-in and day-out.

It sucks your soul, and your intelligence right out of you.

You will turn into a stupid, petty, despot, or tyrant in no time?
