So what do they do with the sewage? KATE ASCHER: A variety of buildings there, some can access a municipal system but many of them actually use trucks to take the sewage out of individual buildings and then they wait on a queue to put it into a waste water treatment plant. So it's a fairly primitive system. (a modern load of crap) |

Quoting: Sparklingwiggle 70309804 True 5 workers died in the construction of the empire state building ,given the safety standards I am amazed the number is so low TRUE. And nothing today, in the U.S. at least, could be built 400 plus days like that building was. It takes years, sometimes over a decade, to get a major building like that built today, due to all the endless reviews, required approvals, community meetings, etc. A current plan to build a 4-5 mile extension of a light rail transit line in Boston will cost an estimated 2 billion $, has been planned for many years, is estimated to take st least another 5 plus years to complete (if all the funding is secured), requires endless environmental approvals, state and federal regulations (good example is all construction must meet federal requirements for disabled access, which greatly increases costs for the construction of elaborate ramps and elevators for wheelchair access), etc. Compare this to the first subway in North America being built in Boston in the 1890s, opening in 1896, built in matter of a few years, with victorian era technology. |
