Correct OP. As long as the universe is expanding, things are alive. Energy is allowed to exist. Everything eats everything else until there is nothing. It's theoretical physics. Without the universe expanding, there is no movement, no energy being spent, no nothing. All dead.

Once every single planet and celestial body is stretched into nothingness because the universe is using everything to expand, the universe should contract to the size of a head of a pin... and start all over again. This whole process could take a trillion years.
