what are your thoughts on people who play videogames on twitch or make youtube videos for a living?

I know a few who do nothing but play games and make youtube videos and life is pretty good with 6 figure incomes.

Good luck trying to make it big being one of these lucky bastards. They are a dime a baker's dozen bob. Just cause it seems that there are alot doesn't mean anyone can do it. There are also 10s of thousands of movie star hopefuls, 1000s of movie stars and only a 100 making it big. May seem like a lot but when you really look at it there isn't that many.

Gamers like pewdiepie and markilplier made a name for themselves early and (IMO) have been overtaken by the powers in order to further pacify a group of people. They are also used for marketing reasons by company to help sell more product or produce interest in something that would have otherwise brought in no interest.

They get paid alot because they help companies make a lot of many based on their name and recommendation alone.

Technology sir, more ways to get paid doing less is what everyone should want.

oh yeah, these people get fucking paid. i dont think people realize how much these companies will pay you to use and promote their websites which means you get to sit at home and play videogames all day.

yeah, some of the requirements are you need to be good at gaming, have a good voice, have good equipment, know how to orate, have marketing skills, be good at networking and kiss butt with developers.

no sorry im not jealous of these deadbeats at all. they are immoral selfish scum and i never want to be like them or do what they do. obviously you must be one of them to take such offense. and it isnt just a few. there are shitloads and it is very easy to do if youre relatively smart and know how to time gameplay after highly anticipated new releases. knowing how to speak well and engage your viewers is just a bonus. also if you just play enough.

I know some people that have tried and they struggle. Even with a built in fanbase it's been a rough ride for them. I think it's their format - they actually play the new games before release and will revisit older games when they feel like it. I like that format but it's not a popular one.

Some games seem to lend themselves to success. GTA, BF and CoD seem to have a lot of people that will watch for hours and hours and years even. Not my cup of tea at all!

What really boggles me is that there are successes who do absolutely nothing but play - they don't say a word. AND they don't even play the game well. Yet thousands watch them?

The group I follow - very interactive with the viewers, very entertaining and play some things well and others, well, they give me hope that I couldn't possibly be that bad. It's actually fun to watch them. Yet the numbers are still way too low for what they give.


Which of course all leads to how legitimate are these popular people? I think there's a lot of gaming the system involved and probably quite a bit of paying for the popularity.

If a streamer comes by the numbers honestly - then awesome. If they're cheating - then I hope they get caught.

Some of these clowns are playing babysitter to toddlers. I shit you not. They play fucking minecraft all day and have your 2-10 year olds watching it on phones and tablets. I've seen that happen to plenty of friends kids recently! Kids zombified and conditioned by some dork makin tons of $$$ playin games all day. I feel bad for these parents as they are friends, and they let their kids just consume this junk.

these people are not even comparable to singers actors and artists. that takes actual talent and skill and can be deeply inspiring, thought provoking, emotionally moving and consciousness raising. playing videogames all day for a living in mommas basement while munching on doritos and taking a hit from a bong between gameplay does none of that. it is not beautiful or artistic or skillful at all. it is purely a way to escape hard work by sucking off a big corporation to promote their website.

im not even against doing this part time as a hobby in your free time but do SOMETHING that helps others and helps society. get a real honest job. i am fully against doing nothing but this full time just to avoid work to provide a meaningful service to someone.
