What do you think? Would you rather vote x into office or vote whether government does y / legislates z?

What is democracy?

there shouldn't be any issues, this notion that there needs to be steady stream of laws coming out of any legislative body is insanity..we were given all we need by the bill of rights and the constitution..anything thing more is just corrupt politicians and business men trying to get past our principles and enrich themselves through graft

I'm glad you mentioned budget, because all of the excuses used for trying to change or amend things in our constitution are taken form passages that are clearly only referring to changes in finance or budget not the underlying principles or ideals..the founders were clear with the word inalienable..so any suggestion of revoking any of the founding principles is clearly treason...but yes to answer your question...budget is really the only thing they should be doing, but it should done as if the whole country should be hanging on their every word...in fact if they weren't such criminal corrupt anarchical asswipes there would be almost no budget concerns anyway because almost no agencies would exist..its them and their sycophants who are the true anarchists

Would rather vote on a reformulation of the issues they state they are solving and can not speak freely about because of invisible dogmatic censorship

Vote on the issue that is the root of the problem that they are not allowed to talk about.

So yes i would not vote for anyone or anything unless it was a problem solving of one of the root problems and not a fallen leaf of some random branch it came from

no, some body needs to exist for as you say budget concerns and to decide what to do on the occasional freak happenings such as trading disputes or war or maybe the odd bit of relief for natural disasters

While I'd rather have direct say by voting the issues, I believe actually doing so would be impossible, particularly if we want voters truly educated about each and every issue.

I do think that congressional pay and benefits absolutely should be up to their wage payers though!!!

Would rather vote on the issues directly which is a true representation of the will of the people, but in that instance it would just be cases of majority rules and that is not always going to lead to the desired outcome. Also, this would just be an intellectual excercise, the system we have is the system we have and the only way it can be changed is to work with what we have and nudge it along towards the desired end while taking into consideration the vox populi. The founders set up things the way they are for a reason and as time goes on it becomes more diluted and less important in the publics consciousness. Therefore, it would be beneficial for the system to maintain its connection to the roots from which it grew so as to avoid becoming strangled by the vines of its own opulence.

I'd rather vote on the issues because atleast all of us would have some sort of word regarding bills and laws being passed. Politicians could care less about us. A politician votes whichever way a lobbying group pays them to vote.
