Anonymous Coward User ID: 47834614 United States 12/31/2015 08:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why does El nino bring me a gentle winter but pound the hell out of everyplace else? This is at least the third time I've seen everywhere else suffer with floods, mudslides, tornadoes, while my snow shovel is still rusty from last year. Finally used the shovel 2 days ago. Heart attack snow, back damaging heavy slugs, and hard to break up. But jeez, it's almost next year and I've shovled ONCE? I'm finally old enough I paid a teenager. A co-worker injured his back. I apologize that my respite from brutal winters seems to be cause for others to experience brutal winters. But then I wonder why it is MY location's particular blessing to have brutal winters and no one cares. Best of luck and my prayers to everyone between Minnesota and the bayous of Louisiana. |

I plan to get one and do the Columbia R. Lite to portage the dams in the way to the Pacific. See what mood MT ST.Helen is in. May have to paddle harder faster than planned. |

Quoting: Goofy for God This group is aware of things as the opening video tell us , we are different. 1. Do not live in a Metroplex. 2. Do not live on banks of water. 3. If you live in tornado prone areas have a safe room, most of us should have this anyways. 4. Be prepared for anything we are seeing and will see uncharted events. My dad always told me when chaos comes he would take the Charlie Frost exit , he has been gone many years now but there is something to that. While attacks on each other is on rise , that you can some what control but this is real doom and other than prayer we have no control over weather even though we have tried. Thread: Some crazy shit is about to happen... Why don't people who live in tornado areas build concrete homes that don't blow away? |

Or are we just waiting for the crest and the aftermath now? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71118340 No, it has stopped but does not matter so much came will take weeks to recover The pattern is typical of an El Niño, but rainfall of this magnitude has crossed into uncharted territory for the region. Since Nov. 1, St. Louis has received more than 18 inches of rain versus the average of 6.50 inches typical for this time frame. St. Louis shattered its December rainfall record of 7.82 inches set during the El Niño of 1982. This December, St. Louis received 11.74 inches of rain. Farther north along the Mississippi River, Minneapolis has received nearly two and a half times its normal rainfall since Nov. 1. Just after Christmas the bursts of rain, which amounted to 6-12 inches in some areas, sealed the fate for river flooding. According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Jim Andrews, "Rainfall is significantly less over the central United States during the winter, when compared to the spring and summer." "During the wintertime, more precipitation falls as snow over the region, which tends to absorb the runoff and causes river levels to fall." [link to www.accuweather.com] |

Need to get hold of my friend that lived close to the river. I only live about 4hrs from this disaster, but rivers here that I was walking app. half way across on sandbars,if not further, now have no sandbars. I was here in the '93 flood got to see that up close. I live next to a valley that floods a lot. If I get flooded, everyone is screwed. Nope sitting here on top of the hills just waiting on the tornados lol. |

Why would anybody live beside a known river drainage ? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67797324 LOL! I used to think that. Then, my parents who live at the top of a hill along with about fifty other houses, all got flooded out when the sewer got clogged. And a friend of mine of flooded out because water can come up through cracks in rocks when you are located up high when there is enough water pressure down below. Just saying, you are not always guaranteed not to flood, but you might not be in danger of losing your life like living in a flash flood area. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 71138444 Ireland 12/31/2015 10:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The worst flooding across the U.S. Midwest in four years has shut some oil pipelines and terminals near St. Louis, potentially swelling a glut of crude and extending this year’s price slide. Five miles of the Mississippi River and 50 miles of the Illinois River have been shut, according to the U.S. Coast Guard website. The flooding is the worst since May 2011, when rising water on the Mississippi and its tributaries threatened refinery and chemical operations and disrupted shipping. So far, the biggest shutdown is Enbridge Inc.’s Ozark oil pipeline, which was booked to carry about 200,000 barrels a day this month to Wood River, Illinois, from Cushing, Oklahoma. The outage of the section under the Mississippi River may further add to stockpiles at Cushing that reached a record high last week. [link to www.bloomberg.com] |
