Others like the Cinnamon desktop. It is entirely free. Yes during its install it will detect windows and ask you if you want to dual boot Windows and Mint Linux. Having tried all the other versions of linux, I like Mint w/ Mate desktop best of all for my daily use. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 69605140 Canada 01/16/2016 02:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i just set up my sisters laptop to triple boot linux mint, win7, and wn 10. mint is great, very well done, use built in firefox to use flash and java, to play pogo games. comes with libre office suite. cant be borked like windows because it requires a password to install stuff and do updates. blue tooth head phones auto detect works great. get a usb thumb drive just download rufus app and mint iso, run rufus select the usb drive, select mint iso then hit start. once rufus is done, boot to the usb drive. begin instal, u can choose to keep windows and dual boot. or wipe and just install mint. |

Google for install guides, setting the Search Tools time setting to 1 year. There is also this Linux-specific google search engine. [link to www.googlinux.com] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 46077201 United States 01/16/2016 03:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have dual boot with Windows 10 and Linux...first you have to install Windows. When you do create a separate partition to hold Linux. Don't install Linux first because installing Windows then becomes a major pain in the ass to get the dual boot right. Good site here to explain it all. [link to linuxbsdos.com] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 46824621 United States 01/16/2016 04:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Its great . Probably has backdoors built into it bu those who have that knowledge would have to actively target you. Its safer than windows. Ofcourse you can get a rootkit or if youre stupid someone tricks you into running a script. But virii arnt really a threat. A) not enough people use it to have mass virii development And B) with the linux file system being as compartmentalized as it is even if you get a virus it can usually only infect that segment unless the virus runs a script. |
