Mexico defeated Texas at the alamo and if I recall correctly they still got their independence. America swallowed texas soon after without firing a shot. See the difference? Also USA took the 2 richest provinces of Mexico from them in war. If Mexico still had control of Nevada and California they might be the rich ones right now

The rebellion was actually headed up by two Mexican counties in Texas territory that revolted against Santa Ana violating the Mexican constitution and creating a centrist military regime to re-bolster Spanish nobility interests.

Fact is, Santa Ana was never on the side of the Mexican rebels. He always fought for Spanish nobility and especially Papist interests.

The south west belonged to Spain, not Mexico. Spain's claim was only theoretical, not in practice. The land had a low carrying capacity and was filled with Native Americans that prevent the Spanish from establishing a large presence. There were only a few thousand Spaniards living in the southern part of Texas and few thousand living in southern part of California.

Revisionist history at it's finest. Those areas, where desolate under the Mexican's. They had control, on paper only. It was American's, that domesticated the Tribes living there, and developed the resources that turned those regions into wealth generators. It is like blacks looking at the white farmers of Rhodesia and being like, with tears in their eye's "they stole our most fertile land". Then after driving the white farmers out, well, the rest is history.

Texas won Independence from Mexico in 1836 after laying waste to the Mexican army at San Jacinto. Afterwards Texas was it's own nation until 1845 when annexed by the United States. This occurred around the same time that the United States was in a war with Mexico again. This time the United States took territory all the way to Mexico City and occupied it. They gave most of the territory back after a peace treaty was signed. The United States could have just kept all of Mexico and taken it but they did not.

It was a victory, but for who? The ones who lost a third of their army to defeat a force less than 1/12 its size, or for those who held to the last man and left an inspiring story and cautionary tale that has persisted for nearly 200 years?
