I read it was only one small nuclear bomb. And nasa knows(as russian academics vasin and scherbakov have revealed) of the moon to have a hull of 30 miles deep of titanium.
So if they really wanted to hurt it they would have used more serious firepower.(see particle beams, antimatter bombs etc).

In elysium movie with matt damon they showed the lunar boss/queen etc uses its agents/puppets on earth to destroy any threat that might be landing on the moon.
