texting and driving
Today i lost a aunt due to a young 21 year old man texting and driving. My uncle and his young daughter are fighting for their lives right now. It killed my aunt and the 21 year old man driving the other car. My aunt and uncle were in there mid 60s, they got married at 14 and had the kind of relationship most of us dream about. She was his wife and best friend, a mother, grandmother, great grandmother,a aunt to me and lived for GOD. My uncle and his daughter may not make it so the next time you get a text or the phone rings while you are driving PLEASE think of this, whats important enough to risk your life or the lifes around you? Now shes dead and a young mans life ended. PLEASE think of the lives you could destroy. It only takes 1 time.

So sorry OP. You are correct. I was rear ended by a 19 year old that was texting. Thank goodness she was slowing for the red light I was at so I got hit at only about 10 mph.

The people who text and drive lack self control and respect for those around them. As someone who drives 200+ miles a day, I can say that humanity is fucked.

Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, messages as depressing as this are the only thing that might stop people who do this.

This activity needs a punishment worse than DUI. Generally speaking, when your drunk, you at least are trying to see the road. While texting, there is a conscious and purposeful decision being made to look away from the road for the worst possible reason: self-importance.

No other driving crime can compare, except for reading or watching TV, which I have seen idiots do. If it's going to be illegal, make it so people will never do it instead of the simple hand slaps violators get now. I can't tell you how many times I've been cut off or run out of my lane.

Condolences, OP, and let your story be a point where wiser minds speak out and are heard for stronger preventative measures to ensure others won't have to grieve loss.

So sorry for your loss. Will pray for your uncle and neice.

Your message is important...those things really can wait for later.

G-d spoke all these words, to respond:
"I am the Lord, your G-d,
Who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
You shall not have the gods of others in My presence.
You shall not make for yourself a graven image or any likeness which is in the heavens above, which is on the earth below, or which is in the water beneath the earth.
You shall neither prostrate yourself before them nor worship them, for I, the Lord, your G-d, am a zealous G-d, Who visits the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons,
upon the third and the fourth generation of those who hate Me,
and perform loving kindness to thousands [of generations],
to those who love Me and to those who keep My commandments." ~ Exodus 20:1-6

OP, very sorry for your loss.

I refuse to even touch my phone while driving and it makes me angry when I'm riding with someone and they mess with it. Every time they look down at it the car drifts for a second or two, that's an eternity when your traveling 55 mph - might as well been driving without being able to see out of the windshield for several seconds - same thing.

I heard that some newer cars will have the option of verbal text reading and sending. When I get a call on my phone in my car, it will let me answer it with the answer button on the steering wheel. I can drive better that way then if I had to hold a phone to my ear.

Still, ever since the smart phone came out, 2006 or so, texting became a new danger.

talking on the phone is dangerous... texting goes way beyond dangerous.. People who are seen doing it by cops should be pulled over and charged the same as being drunk. Maybe texting is even worse..
