That's exactly what you get if you go to an authorized dealership for repairs. You end up paying through the nose. If you like to tinker with your car, it's fine to do it by yourself. However, if you'd prefer someone else to do the job, go and ask for a quote at small shops instead. They usually know perfectly well how to do stuff like that without charging you exorbitant amounts for it. Steaks are high Tomato plants are in Family is shaved It has begined |

I learn fast with DIY and been paying attention when friends have had any done at their homes - so gonna have a bash at it. Great feeling being able to do things yourself and not having to pay a ton of money out for it! But the shops need that money so they can pay their floor sweepers $15/hr. Doing things yourself is part of the problem. We need as many people as possible clueless and unhandy so they overpay for things. That's how you build a strong economy. |

Dr. Moran User ID: 72238646 Finland 05/25/2016 08:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | better check the laws in your state you may have just committed a crime...... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71013521 Good point. Also check your insurance contract. Over here some insurance companies require that all repairs must be conducted by an authorized shop. Not just claim related repairs but ALL repairs. That is, if you fix the side mirror by yourself and end up in a crash later on, you could get burned by your DIY work on the car. If they figure it out somehow, they could call it a breach of contract and reject your claim. So, it's better not to boast about something like this on FB, for instance. You don't really own it even though you've paid it in full. You have just paid for the licence to drive it, but trying to figure out how it works (or doesn't) and fixing things will be in breach of that licence.
