OP, this isn't work related, but you just reminded me of a wonderful experience. A few friends (all white) and I decided to go to the soul show at the Uptown in Philly. This was many years ago, maybe 1970. We were the only white people there, and place was packed.

On the walk from our car, people smiled and asked, "you going to the show?" They seemed happy we were there.

We were never shown any hostility the whole time. Only friendly acknowledgment.

I was blown away by the performances. There was nothing like it on TV, they were amazing. And people got up on the stage, danced in the aisles, danced in their seats--one big party, and everyone was invited.

It was one of the most fun nights I've ever had.
