Any GLPer ever done 'metal detection stuff'?
I used to do some for a year intensively. Was a great fun along the St-Laurent. Never really found anything worth mentionning other then a full 50car engine 100m into low tide mud.

I plan to buy a better tool and restart that hobby.

Bump it
"Accept now that all you have seen from the day of your birth on the surface of the earth, to the present, are wonderful only because the finite mind of man is confused with fragments of evidence, that, from whatever direction we meet them, spring from an unreachable infinity."

"There was a man who could create what could not be imagined. A temple so great you questioned if it was built with human hands. A man who built an idea into the greatest force the world has ever known. A world built from a single word. I care not for the folly of man but for the end of human contention."

I do it quite a bit. Best find so far was a gold latch from a jewelry box found in the footprint of a very old, torn-down house.

Was the first find on the first day. Poof! Hooked!

I do it every time! I live in the beach. There were some days that I dug out the equivalent of 50 dollars in coins and not even counting the ammount of jewelry. Of course there times where weeks go by and I only get bottle caps and garbbage...

You have to invest in a decent one with a detailed meter/sound scheme, or else you just hear a 'BEEP' and dig up coke can pull tab #145,798.

Upper model Fischer ones are pretty good,...look for ones that have a different sound with different materials, or a meter with a needle that shows you what type of metal it's detecting.

BUT...depending on the site you're searching, what registers as scrap metals can still be good finds.

I hit the local beaches after the summer season is over and have found numerous gold rings that people have lost in the sand or lost swimming and have washed up.

I've also checked my local town history and hit a few places that are now empty lots but have uncovered a few civil war coat buttons, old railroad conductor hat badges, etc.

Low tide sandy swimming/surfing places, early morning - shovel and sieve (plastic shopping basket)... can be very lucrative.

I did it in the 80s-90s and a little after that. Got a little old for it and as more people got into it it could be dangerous as land owners began to get fed up with people who did not take the time to fill up the holes they dug.

I strictly hunted for civil war relics and have quite a few relics from the war.
