It can't really be that common outside of the brainless gated communities can it? I don't think the people that would actually hire a life coach could tolerate the views discussed on this site longer than 5 seconds.

The only people who would be qualified, wouldn't be interested.

They would have to have a proven track record.

An ex president for a politician.

A general for a soldier.

It's traditionally called a mentor.

Do you think the 'qualified' ones would charge for sharing their knowledge?

It would fit right in with the mystic 'life coaches' ideals.

Life coaching is a scam of sorts. The main priority of the lifecoach is earn money so they will tell you what you need to hear in order to get paid. The type of personality that is attracted to this kind of work is the guru/megalomaniac who loves the sound of their own voice and thinks they have the world figured out. Someone like me for instance. Best advice is to work things out for yourself. Educate yourself on all matters. There is nothing a life coach knows that you cannot figure out yourself.

I suppose a massage therapist is a scammer too? Or a social worker? Or a cosmetologist? A psychologist? Really? An astrologer or numerologist?

Wow. I've done a great deal of research over the last few days. Motivational speakers and Life Coaches aren't scammers. They just have to deal with people who can't find their own way. Much like a guidance counselor in school.

Very interesting and I will continue to research. I have other professional licenses and certifications and may ad this one too.

Yes all scammers. People who can't find their way in life won't be able to find it no matter how much coaching they get. But like we need illness and crime in order for our economy to thrive do it seems we need failures too.

These guys are usually scammers. The owner of a company I worked for had one and got him for like $80,000 a year. The guru and his wife came into our office and tried to do these meetings with various departments to figure out a better management structure. It was hilarious. He did the changes and then undid them a few years later.

They kind of prey upon folks that don't have their own compass.

Hard to answer. I have gone after anything I wanted on my own. No one had to "talk me into it" so to speak. But did I seek guidance along the way? Hell yeah. From guidance counselor in high school, career counselors in college. Then more career counseling before I went to Massage Therapy school. And it goes on....all the way to Management and Leadership training.

They should have hired a business consultant, bot a guru, unless you are using that term loosely. Shame on them for not doing their research.

I had a few meetings with one through work, I was going through a rough patch, burnout at work really, and decided it was worth a try.
Eventually she ended up focusing more to make me see all aspects of my life and how I allowed others to tugboat me through their decisions, while I sorted all the consequences.

Both at home, family, and at work that was what I allowed to happen. Was a big realization. Probably would have realized that on my own eventually, but because of her much much sooner and I could tackle it.

A life coach, or a motivation coach is nothing more than an alpha male with some knowledge in psychology. Only beta males need and alpha male to teach them what to do in life. For an alpha male it is just another alpha male who is milking the masses of beta males. For beta males it's like listening to god himself. There is no real difference between a priest and a life coach, because it's the same formula, explain to the masses of sheeple something obvious that you know, without telling all the truth, so the sheeple will always return for answers.

I worked for this guy for about 18 mos (remote web work) and skyped with him and many, if not all, of his teachers & staff daily.

Over-priced ego-driven drivel - as helpful as talking with a sympathetic ear

It can be useful and helpful but is simply way over priced and many practitioners have highly elevated egos.

I currently career coach. I have found that most people are too lazy, or too confused to work out their own career path. They come to me every day. There are those who know how to take the steps to move forward and those who don't.

My limited exposure seems to be a certain class of individuals that are leading a rich lifestyle, that get bored and pay someone for attention. Now it would be interesting to find out what type of attention these coaches offer?

I wonder what the possibilities are of finding someone that actually helps versus someone who is in it for the paycheck? How much damaged could those that are in it for the paycheck cause?

How many people have you run into that are experienced enough on this path of life to offer constructive information?

So I am assuming most of these life coaches are older and wise individuals? Or are they younger, well built/endowed people, maybe even pretty?

Who are the main consumers of these life coaches, men or women? Why?
