How does it play out when a major candidate pulls out? Soft coup? Historical examples? | |

I don't see how the Dems can go forward with her as a candidate. Sorry I don't have any usefil info on the subject. But it's well worth some research. They must have some kind of ace in the hole. Good thread topic! Bump for more info from the politigeniuses. |

Corporal Klinger User ID: 40965128 Canada 09/04/2016 08:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You can't look for examples anywhere else in the world. Nobody but the USA engages in such a gong show facade of democracy. A year and a half of campaigning and it comes down to this choice? You know that Trump only looks good because he is campaigning against pure evil. This speaks to his character and courage, but still... it takes almost 2 years and that's what you come up with? A rigged Democratic convention? Two parties that effectively shut out all other choices? What's the point? In a Parliamentary system, the election would go on regardless. The party caucus would chose an interim leader to be followed by a leadership convention after the election. In a Presidential system, they might postpone the election by a month, but probably not. The best example from recent years would be France in 2011. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the head of the IMF was expected to run for President. He was arrested in New York on allegations of sexual assault. Although the charges were subsequently dropped, the timing of events prevented him from running in the election. Strauss-Kahn's Socialist party ran Hollande instead and he won. Deplorable in a tin foil hat |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 41457315 According to DNC bylaws the DNC members can nominate anyone they want to. Doesn't even have to be a declared candidate. That's a scary thought. Sanders? No. He declared allegiance to the Hildabeast and lost all his supporters. I would think Biden would be their best bet. |

Seems Hillary might step down for one reason or another. How does it usually play out in other countries? Seems like an election loophole to place an unknown/unscrutinized person into office. Quoting: B 26114015 As an American I must say I couldn't care less how it "payed out" in other countries. If they pull this BS here they will find it was a huge miscalculation. Civil war 2.0 will be bloody but swift. |

Just because one of the main 2 parties can't compete doesn't mean no race at all. Some of you actually think if those 2 main parties don't participate we can't have an election? I for one am so beyond ready for a different party to take the reigns. Republicrats = left wing, right wing, still the same bird. = heads, tails, still the same coin. Hell..., most people don't even know the democratic party was originally the Anti-masonic party. My have we come a long way from that, seeing how they're pushing an illuminati witch. |

The nomination by default would go to her current VP pick and then the party would need to vote and Joe Biden or another candidate may step into that vote. There would be another DNC vote. By leaving the Democratic party, Bernie Sanders handed all his delegates to Hillary Clinton. However, i DO forsee Sanders throwing his hat in the race as an Independent IF this did occur. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 69476452 Canada 09/05/2016 01:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sanders (#2) CANNOT be the Democratic nominee because he is no longer a Democrat! It would turn into a Biden/Caine ticket Biden has already said he would step in if needed. Or could just remain Obama/Biden if close enough to election day Obama would need to postpone the election if something happens 10days out or less. |
