Eddie Bauer tells Veteran to PHUCK OFF...
After I paid off my entire balance to bring my balance down to 0.0$$$$ I get a bill for late fee. When I made my payment, I clear told the customer service representative to please make sure everything is included to bring my balance down to zero, including all fee and charges. The customer service representative at Eddie Bauer said it was all included and there were no other fees. This was a few weeks ago.

Yesterday I get a $25.00 late fee after I paid the total balance. I called them up and told them I had paid it off they told me you did not pay the late fee.

I spoke to the supervisor and told him I am a disable veteran with low income. I am trying to survive financially and have many medical bill. I told me it is not his problem and have a nice day.

Anyone have any ideas of how I should move forward with this problem. Any advice would be very helpful and aprreciated. Thank You.

Eddie Bauer "customer service" must not understand the power of ill will. An unsatisfied customer is likely to tell many people of the their bad experience.

The cost of getting a customer back far outweighs the cost of waiving a late fee. Bad business on their part.

Unfortunately, it will probably cost more in time, money, and effort to recoup your "late fee" charges than its worth.

I did this to UAMS hospital and 2 or 3 months later I got a bill for $275 that they say I owed for january, 7 months earlier. No amount of reasoning with them mattered. If I didn't pay, they hand it to a collection agency that hounds you until you pay. Even though I am low income, I paid, when I got the money, so I wouldn't be hounded. Yeah, I'm a veteran with a disability.
I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you.

I only bought the things I needed and were 50% to 70% off. Also, my bill was $97.00 and I wanted to pay it all off and bring it to $0.00000. I specifically asked them to make sure that all fees and charges were included.

You did not understand what I wrote.

when you are not dependent upon a credit rating, you have the option to NOT PAY when you are being extorted

about every ten years, I check my credit report ... and get a big laugh, because the people I REFUSED to pay - for good reason, are still trying to get their money, even though their cost for courts and lawyers far exceed what they say I owe them ...

I am not the least bit threatened by a "bad credit report" - I pay for everything in Cash - and if I don't have the cash to buy something - I DON'T BUY it - especially on credit, which makes the item "on sale" cost twice as much ...

With all due respect Op, it is your responsibility to make sure everything, including all fees and charges are tallied up and taken care of.

Was your last payment late??? If it was, they'd never add a late fee to that payment. They have to wait for the next billing cycle.

Correct me if I'm wrong... You were a bit late on the final payment so you called and asked them to figure out your total balance including taxes and additional fees. They gave you the amount and you paid thinking you were done. Unfortunately when the next billing cycle came up their computer spit out your name with a $0.00 owed for the merchandise but with a $25.00 late fee due.

As for the supervisor not caring that you're a vet...
Have you any idea how often they probably hear that? They probably get 20 fake disabled vets a week. In his eyes the only reason someone would bring up being a disabled vet is for sympathy and trying to skate from a bill. He doesn't see a disabled vet, he sees a deadbeat.

Call them back calmly and you'll probably get someone who'll waive the final late charge.

Thanks AC. I actually talked to them twice and explained to them my financial situation. Additionally, I made it clear to them that I needed all fees and charges included so I can zero out my balance. I told them I am a disabled vet with limited income and want to pay off the entire balance.

I explained to them I was paying off all my bills now since I probably wont have any money later. I may not have it later and that was the point of calling them and trying to pay the whole balance off...

I try to pay everything and not owe anyone. I can assure you I am not a deadbeat and always try to payoff everyone and on time. I do have health issues and go to the VA hospital for my health issues. When I have an emergency health issue, the ambulance won't take me to the VA hospital so I end up at the nearest hospital. Well that's where those damn med bills come from. I am a disabled vet from Operation Enduring Freedom.

No. Not at all. That was not my point. My point was simple and clear. I was trying to pay what I own with what little income I have. I let them know my situation and was very sincere, respectful and courteous about it.

The point was I needed to pay it all off so I can go on to the next bill. I was trying to pay my bills... I was trying to make sure I get everything paid of so I know how much I would have left over and work with towards other bills and buying food to put food on the table for my children.

That's it. simple as can be.

Op, I'm not doubting that you're a disabled vet. What I was saying was that the customer service person you spoke with probably hears it 20 times a day from real vets and fakers alike. There's no way for them to know you're being honest or if you're just trying to get sympathy.

As for telling them to give you all fees and charges... They did, up to that point in time because the extra $25.00 late fee was not added until the new billing cycle. Remember all this crap is done by computers now. The new billing cycle came up and the computer automatically saw you were late with your final payment so it charged the late fee. The support person you were talking to probably isn't allowed to say you're gonna be hit with a late fee next month, do you want to pay for it now? That would show you paying more than you owe and you can then complain that you were overcharged. It's easier for them and for record keeping to bill you at the appropriate time, even if it's just a late fee.

Again, your best bet is to call them and see if you can get a billing agent or support person to waive the final late fee. You may have to talk to a couple people but they can do it.

One way or another, get it taken care of because getting late fees added onto late fees won't be fun.

Re: Eddie Bauer tells Veteran to PHUCK OFF...
First, Eddie Bauer does not finance their own stuff. They outsource financing to (I believe) a company called Alliance Data Services. Which is basically a bank that runs credit cards for a lot of businesses and gas cards.

So, you were probably not talking to Eddie Bauer employees. Secondly, if you had a Bill for 97.00 dollars, you paid it, and THAT took your balance to zero, you should be able to prove that fact.

On day XX I paid my bill and it showed 0.00 balance.

They either have to say: you bill was 0.00 on that day, or you bill was not zero, it had a 25.00 balance.

If they admit your balance was O.00 then tell them you do not accept the late fee. If they claim that your balance had already been charged 25.00 and your bill at the time you paid it was not 97.00 but 123.00 then they should be able to prove that to you. If they can't, don't pay.
