When the debate is only one-sided no progress can be made, when only one point of view is allowed your inner voice has no-one to talk to, never mind debating anybody else on a given subject.

I support it, can't understand why democrats never pushed it into law before. I have no problem with both sides being presented, or is that not the American way? This is a small thing compared to all the other things needed to get the government back to the people.

No doubt this would mean that MS-NBC will have to hire Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly as full time commentators.

CBS will get Sean Hannity and CNN will have Ann Coulter.

Ooops, sorry, I am sure they are not actually intending that all networks be "fair", just those they don't like.

In the past it was just a FCC regulation and the stations were self regulated. The Dems want to make it LAW that would include govt monitors deciding what is balanced. Also, during the time the regulations were enforced, there was no politics being talked about on the radio. There werent any political talk shows.

Now imagine you own a radio station. You have a conservative talk show that is on for 2 hours and generates advertising dollars. You now must put on a liberal talk show that doesnt generate a dime. What happens if no one tunes in to listen? You end up doing what happened before and not have any talk shows. NONE.

Is that really OK with you?

CBS, ABC and NBC along with the Times are as left wing liberal as you can get but the Dems backing this bill say they dont need monitoring as they are OK. This is primarily directed to conservative Radio because the Libs havent been able to get a presence. They have said that FOX will be targeted as well.

Why not just go arrest or shoot everyone who disagrees with ya'll. Thats the democratic way.

There isnt a radio station in the country that can provide equal time to libs without getting advertising dollar in return. It would be financial suicide.

If that statement isnt true, there would be lots of liberal talk shows. None of them have ever created enough interest from listeners to make enough advertising bucks to stay on the air. Ratings are what determines dollars.

They will have to cancel all conservative talk shows and go back to music. That means that a thousand or more talk radio stations will end up in bankruptcy.

Or, the federal government will have to shell out a shit load of money to pay for liberal talk shows. That aint gonna happen Martha.

Nice law huh? It wont give the liberal view at all, it will close down the conservative view.

But that should make a lot of you happy as hell.

(I still dont know why this hasnt been pinned. It pertains to GLP just as much. Oh well...)

There were no political talk shows back then? You have no idea of what you speak. Your lack of experience is showing. There were many. They were mostly local back then, before the consolidation of media ownership homogenized radio.

Also, the FCC doctrine was enforcable, just like the fines for wardrobe malfunctions and dirty words are now. Again, your inexperience shows. The world ain't gonna end, kiddo.

My comments are not to defend the fairness doctirne as it was or how it might be revived, but to examine your hypocrisy.

So, I don't understand the financial ramifications of this. Who pays for the liberal views being expressed? We know that the show sponsors pay for time on the station during a talk show they choose.

Who pays for the time for the liberal shows?

Does this mean that the host has to interview liberals?

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVY BASE, Cuba -- Nearly three years after his release, an Afghan teen who was among three youths from his country held here has been recaptured in Afghanistan for fighting against U.S. forces, a senior camp official says.

The Afghan, who was about 15 when he was swept up along with hundreds of others and taken to Guantánamo Bay, is among a few former prisoners who have been killed or recaptured following their release by U.S. authorities, said Paul Rester, director of the Joint Intelligence Group at the detention center.

The former detainee would now be about 19.

Its how libs argue. If someone mentions something that is wrong about what the Dems are doing, you come back with Yeah, but the Christians slaughtered billions of Muslims during the Crusades. Or Nixon was a crook.

You dont debate, you create smoke and attack the messenger.

Im going to go take a nap.

Maybe on Monday there will be someone here who can actually debate something without calling names.

The FCC fairness policy was given great credence by the 1969 U.S. Supreme Court case of Red Lion Broadcasting Co., Inc. v. FCC. In that case, a station in Pennsylvania, licensed by Red Lion Co., had aired a "Christian Crusade" program wherein an author, Fred J. Cook, was attacked. When Cook requested time to reply in keeping with the fairness doctrine, the station refused. Upon appeal to the FCC, the Commission declared that there was personal attack and the station had failed to meet its obligation. The station appealed and the case wended its way through the courts and eventually to the Supreme Court. The court ruled for the FCC, giving sanction to the fairness doctrine.
