I'm here in North Texas. Below Zero may be normal for your area, but out here in North Texas it's been about average, I think. However, out here this cold has been feeling to be abnormally wet and somehow colder than it should be. Even the south winds three or four years ago when we last had that terrible Winter where it snowed in all forty-eight continental States all the signs were there leading up to Winter - a really hot and dry summer, wacky Fall weather which progressively turned colder and colder seemingly random. This Summer wasn't all that hot actually compared to that other Summer. It was still fairly rainy and warm all the way into early July out here. That's way off base out here because our dry/drought season doesn't start till late May to early June. I think it was within the last year we had a decently strong and heavy tropical storm blow through town and later on multiple tropical-like depressions form over the Eastern half of Texas for weeks on end. One such storm system caused alot of damages because it caused essentially an ocean fall onto my town for hours on end. Lots of businesses and homes' roofs were severely damaged from the multiple but sporadic multi-hour long deluges. Even my family's home wasn't spared. The roof leaked almost profusely because so much rain fell in such a short amount of times and we were starting to wonder if the place was going to really flood out. Luckily the deluges ended before serious flooding across town began, but not before alot of physical damages were accumulated across the board. Virtually all of the roof repair kits and supplies were sold out everywhere in town for weeks after that storm system finally became Louisiana's problem. I'm in Ontario, Canada. We haven't seen a snowflake here yet. It's not abnormal though. A few winters ago, I didn't have to wear my winter boots even once. The last couple of winters have been insane. Our summer was hot and extremely dry. Zero here is freezing. It's your 32. So if I was like 83 I'd still have a chance? In such a scenario I'd be cozing up to the surviving-well old people to learn their secrets at least. Screw that mindless BS with the younger idiots. Work smarter, not harder! Conspiracy Theorist is nothing more than a derogatory title used to dismiss a critical thinker. A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying, 'You are mad; you are not like us." -- St. Anthony The Great Social Credit Loser here. |

Our summer was hot and extremely dry. Zero here is freezing. It's your 32. Oh ok, the Metric System and Celsius temperature system. Not bad, Anonymous Girl. State-side all that super cold came down here. Most of the East Coast became what could only be described as a close approximation to The Day After Tomorrow... repeatedly and frequently at that. My area in North Texas was frequently and repeatedly was ten to twenty degrees F colder than average then. That means we were often in the 30's*F for daytime highs and sometimes close to the teens for daytime highs during the worst of it. We had such many many hard freezes that Winter that it took us two years for our grasshopper and cricket populations to spring back to their normal numbers - aka literal fricken swarms. For the last couple of summers their species' numbers were almost gone but noone was complaining about that. Sounds chilly for Texas. Here's something I learned over the last couple of years...-40C is the same as -40F. I looked it up when my parents had that temperature a few times last winter. 30's*F is cold even for Texas. However, that made alot of people very happy, particularly the old people. They were very happy finally being able to pull out their huge wool and other types of sweaters for the first time in years. That was nice. If it gets that cold again I'll wear long sleeve shirts again too as well as coats. Conspiracy Theorist is nothing more than a derogatory title used to dismiss a critical thinker. That quote got my attention. Thanks for the thread. ============== We already have our vents very well plugged this year. Two years ago we had 16 inches of blown in insulation put in the attic. I wish for all that and more eventually. ============= I will be doing more prep outside for snow etc. |
