Maths is a Britishism, it means the exactly same thing as the Yankee word math. IOW not a plural, just the contraction of the word mathematics.

It is so arrogant to think that we are the only advanced technology civilization the earth has ever seen....especially when you consider that the earth is BILLIONS of years old.

Think about this. Look how fast evidence of past societies becomes erased in just a few thousand years. We think of most of them as being "primative" because they lacked our modern technology. But look at where we are storing most of our technology today. On magnetic disks called hard drives of one form or another. And look at how helpless most people would be in the event of a catastrophic disaster like a giant meteor strike or eruption of a super volcano. ALL of our technology could be gone in an instant and there would be no way to bring it back unless you could retrieve the info from servers that would be useless without electricity. Hell, we don't even print many books anymore....ebooks are replacing them! It wouldn't take much for our present civilization to be wiped off the map and from memory. One giant eruption and then a million years go by and you'd never know the world existed as it does today. There would be literally NOTHING to show for it. The survivors of an event like that would be virtually helpless because no one knows how to live off the land anymore. Without electricity & modern tools, they'd be goners. And there would be no records available to recover any of our technology. Instant stone age! These types of events could have happened HUNDREDS of times in our past....easily!
