Uh... most people don't even think about vetting the information they see on the net or in the news. They see something they already agree with and they immediately share it as if it were a proven fact. They see news that makes them angry, and they share it right away without fact checking it.

It happens on GLP all the time, too. In fact, the conspiracy theory community is mostly a circle-jerk of alternative sites citing each other as reference and calls it "research". If someone wants to see the original information on which the theory is based on, or more substantive proof, he'll be called a shill or a skeptic (as if that's an insult).

The Washington Post just admitted that their fake news story was based on fake news.
