Need candor....is it a big deal to sing the national anthem at a major sporting event or not?
What's the opinion on this. I sang the anthem for two nationally televised men's college basketball games. it was fun to sing in front of crowds of 10,000 people. But is it really a big deal? Would it be a benefit to one's musical career or a non-factor/waste of time?

the youtube is hilarious. yes it is, but i'd prefer to be on the down low. i only have like 40 views. it's like fake 90 seconds of fame in my mind. i nailed the song, and it was received super well... just doesn't seem like there is any benefit though. I'm thinking about trying to get in with other teams to do it, but is it inherently lame?

Are you getting paid and is the money worth the effort to leave your house and do this?

i am not getting paid, i just got two tickets to each game. it's more for the exposure... but it seems like it's just fake "fame" for 90 seconds.

Meh, I personally wouldn't do it then. If you are looking to sing professionally I'm not so sure that's the best venue to get ahead. I can't think of any singers who were discovered at a local ballgame.

But if you have fun, go for it. You shouldn't be seeking acceptance here. Especially if you won't even post your video link. If you think it's stupid that's all that really matters.

I deem it worth it from a pleasure standpoint. it's a rush of all rushes to sing a capella in front of that many people. it's a blast and i am a huge sports fan. but from a career advancement standpoint, it just still seems like it may be perceived as something greater than it actually is.

Why on earth would it be lame??

Yes, any time you're selected to sing in front of 10,000 people it's potentially a big deal, one way or the other.

(Cue Mariah Carey's new year's eve...)

Shows you have stage presence AND the ability to present a difficult song, it's a good add to your bio.

Maybe if i approach it from just a hey, any exposure is good standpoint" it's not so bad? It's not like I'm a contestant on the voice or something ya know?

I sang the national anthem at my nursing school graduation. I thought it was very cool :) Didn't advance my nursing career though.

I would prefer not to reveal my identity on glp... don't think there's anything wrong with that. i'm not looking for acceptance or coddling. Just seeking objectivity on whether it's cool or meh to sing it.
