H2s , i work aroud the stuff all the time. It is EXTREMELY dangerous and can even be explosive at correct concentrations. Should have had a meter to test for it ( sniffer ) to check before they ever got in there. Here in the US there are very strict guidlines wheb working around confined spaces , tanks , sewers , vaults. Etc. . Sadly this does happen all to often.

It used to happen to people who used to store their vegetables in vegetable storage rooms underground or underground root cellars. You need to let them air out before you go in them. Very sad.

This is normal when entering "confined spaces," without proper respiratory protection. It's a darn shame, and I am surprised the firefighters went in this spot, unless they are not trained properly, this is common knowledge, I think...
Toxic gases heavier than air will settle at these places, lacking the needed oxygen to supply breathing air for humans.

I seriously doubt it was vegetation sewage giving off dangerous gas that lethal.....more like gases from the fracking.
These people lie right to your face and don't want you to know the real reason just like poisoning the food supply....all lies!!!

I've been a commercial fisherman in Alaska for 30 years and I've heard many similar stories but instead of holes in the ground the people fell over dead in fish holds from the poisonous gasses of decomposing fish.

One story goes like this. The captain sends a guy into the fish hold to clean it out and he falls over dead, another guy goes in to see what happened to him and he falls over dead. This sequence continues until all crew on board are dead. Anyway, that's the story I heard and I'm sticking to it.

Sometimes people do not use their brains, masks are made for this very thing, they should be turned in to the group over work hazards, and safety. Did they forget underground deposit of gas? It could also be other things down there you should not breath.

This is most likely a result of H2S (Hydrogen Sulphide) exposure...if the concentration is high enough even short term exposure can result in immediate collapse and most likely death will follow as the victim has no way of saving himself or herself (due to incapacitation).

In the oil and gas industry H2S awareness courses are mandatory and workers will not be allowed on site without first having taken and passed the course.

This happened on oak island.

Yup, used to happen all the time at industrial facilities. Then they figured out you can't just send someone in after the passed out worker, so they set up a tripod with a cable to a gear reduction hand crank that's attached to the worker.

Then they found out that sometimes, the worker gets snagged when you are trying to reel him back in with a 100:1 gear reduction, and you end up ripping him in half. Live and learn, I guess.

Rotten potatoes, in a confined area, can kill you, as potatoes are part of the "night shade family". When they decompose, they emit a poison that kills.
