Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71069920 In the woods, I don't seem to generate any fear in the critters anymore. Last Saturday morning, I went to one of my favorite spots on the river I grew up by to recharge. The geese (or major male) began honking, and I answered a few back to say I was just taking a picture, and they silenced. Then I walked much closer for the pics, slowly, like a goose, not looking at them. Same way back. As I departed, I got a hearty "ThAnk yOu" from the leader. It sounds just like "Thank you!" in tone. Other times I stop and rest and notice an enormous owl, who just stayed as I walked up. There's a house I want to buy, with an Akita in the back/side yard. I drove by last weekend and in howling, told it I wish I could be there and be its people, and it immediately howled a quiet little sentence, while putting it's paw on a really little dog next to it to tell it not to bark. So how do animals respond to your presence? Gorgeous. Write like Kerouac. |

Now about your 'cred' - this time of year geese are protective of their nests and mating pairs. They 'let' you get close because they are protecting their territory. Owls are virtually blind in the day time. So they most times will sit still rather than fly off. I've fed wild geese (alive) by hand at a favorite fishing pool and watched many owls at close range while out in the woods. Your experiences are normal and not cause for 'cred'. |
