Hint: Fancy roofs with lots of corners and angles cost a bunch and you never know it's up there when you're inside. Keep the house, simple, but not necessarily small. Build Double wall construction (two separate 2x4 walls 1 foot between them filled with celulose insulation) May I suggest a FourSquare (old fashioned) floorplan? That optimizes outer wall to interior space. Texas style mini-mansions make me sick with all their useless labor. Put an elevator in it to appeal to your father-in-law's snooty attitude. I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. Slake Blake |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70453243 I value freedom more than anything. I have a wife and 2 young kids. We are paying $1800 for their private schooling and that is a higher priority than owning a big ass mortgage. We are considering the following... Storage Container homes that we can build up gradually and modular homes. We want our housing expenses to be no more than $1000 a month(including property tax in NJ which will probably be $500 a month alone) No bank loans and prep What should I do? |

darth User ID: 70183558 United States 03/05/2017 08:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I lost everything I owned three times in my life and arrived at age 55 bankrupt and almost nothing. But...I never give up. Bought a failing company that owed loads to the IRS and paid...ZERO for the company. Finally, had two good years and made some money. Bought 5 acres with a house that was totally trashed. The land was a bargain and I got the house for $10,000! No mortgage; paid cash for the house and land! My wife fixed everything in the house, plumbing, wiring, dry wall, paint, etc. Now, we will live here the rest of our lives. It is small, but totally adequate. We now have a garden, fruit trees, and chickens. We will never go hungry. Note: I had a cousin who put a mobile home/tornado magnet on his land. Then, he built a house himself working every spare hour buying materials with his weekly paychecks. Nice house, totally paid for. Now, he rents out the mobile. |

Heirloom seeds have a massive profit potential! Look at the prices in "seeds of change" or "bountiful gardens". (and how much seed you get for the money). buy small amounts of seeds from them...the first year you will be growing the crops and saving the seed for youself. Next year plant all 6 acres with your seeds and make sh!tloads of money selling them. Save enough seed to plant again next year. |

Keep 3 acres, and build one house per acre. Now you have 3 rental properties which pay for the loan to build your house and all 3 other houses. |

And you dont want to be a debt slave? Too bad, not gonna happen. Its called property taxes. If you have two young kids then build the home for your kids, not yourself and your wife. Your kids will resent you and call you a loser when they see their fellow friends parents homes/estates/property/asset value/etc outpace and outdo your own. Having debt is inevitable (because its been made to be that way) but how you deal with your debt is what sets you apart from others. You can be stupid and have it work against you, or you can be smart and have it work for you. Trust me, make your kids live in a modular storage shit home and by the time they are older they will call you a loser because they will ask why werent you smart enough or good enough to have abundance in your life. Then they will never listen to you again. |

Not sure as to rules or regulations in your area but I find hobbit homes to be very artistic and I would think it would be fun to live in one with your own style and taste. Also, check into free and clean energy devices that are coming out. They can run your whole house. No need to pay big bucks to get electric to your home and no need to have poles and wires on your land. No energy bills to pay and clean energy for your environment and family. |

Excuse me for saying so, but the $1,800 monthly tuition you are paying for 2 young kids, I assume Elementary School level, is outrageous! Why don't you homeschool them, give them a much better education, and have them help you build a nice two-story family home and workshop, maybe a barn too, with the money you would have given to teachers. The building skills they would learn could be considered an education in itself. "All you may know of heaven or hell is within your own self." - Edgar Cayce |
