Quoting: The Scientist 1. laser refractors 2. mirrors 3. beam expanders 4. prisms 5. smoke 6. graphite or 7. rotating the missile in flight ...and the laser weapon is diminished or defeated! What an ill-considered reply. 1. How do you put a 'laser refractor', on an entire missile? 2. Mirrors will still heat, they are not 100% reflective at all wavelengths. 3. How do you put a 'beam expander' over an entire missile? 4. How do you put a prism over an entire missile? 5. Smoke in space? Smoke that somehow keeps pace with a high speed missile? 6. Graphite ?? 7. Rotating in space -- just delays things, you burn a band rather than a hole Read some science fiction and at least come up with something interesting to say. He's not a real scientist, but he did post on GLP from a Holiday Inn Express this morning. Good One!!! |

They would need multiple lasers, on a ship, similar to Anti-Aircraft guns to defeat multiple inbound targets... Why don't they come up with a highly directional EMP pulse weapon. Fire it in a 10-20 degree aperture and anything within that field, up to 10 miles, would have its electronics destroyed. So its a fire and forget platform and move on to the next target. It would be a lot better than a laser that has to lock onto the target in order to destroy it.... Doesn't the Air Force have a missile that can destroy electronics using microwave frequencies.... |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74278138 My understanding is that its a defensive weapon for the most part. The fact that it doesn't run out of ammo, nor does it need all the support that ammo would require to tote it, carries great advantages. There could be higher kW weapons in the future. Maybe it could be used to poke a hole in the Iranians' and N Korean nuclear weapons efforts? aND/oR put a zillion holes in hundreds of thousands of US Citizens that refuse to do what their masters want them to do. Ah, the Power of the Prince of the Air... When has the military in our 230 year history attacked our civilian population? Yes, I did cure my Stage 4 cancer in two weeks when I was 48. I think it's the shape of a inter-dimensional alien space craft. Have you noticed that we always kill off the good guys and let the demons run amok?
