Loud boom
Anyone else hear it just now? It sounded very different to the commonly seen and heard F-15's and Panavia Tornados we get over this part of the world, very similar sounding to a rocket launch rather than a military aircraft.

Looked out the window to see nothing, though it is getting dark now. No afterburners or lights anywhere to be seen.

Hoping it's not a rocket... wtf

Jet switching it's after burners on to make an emergency intercept of Russian Nuke bombers maybe.

I've been hearing the same thing. its merely military jets, i hear it often. Could be American jets or Eurofighters or even F-35.. But yea that's what it is.. I bet Russia is pissed so is probing our airspace more now to make us panic and scramble. Or it could be something else.

I'm over in xxxx, heard it twice now. Sounded as if it's headed northerly the first time and then the second similar but quieter sound was headed east out to the north sea.

If you heard it over in Ely, it must have been loud.

Problem is, we get a lot of military flights here, to the point where I can distinguish between an F15 and Tornado now, and heard sonic booms.

This was totally different to low level military flights we get here. I think you're probably right but no lights, no afterburner. And it'd have to be low to be that loud, and burning. Couldn't see a thing.

The first time I actually heard this type of sound was in Burton, about half a year ago now.

I am in Norwich, pretty sure it is just normal military jet activity, though it does seem to be ongoing on for quite a while.

I hear a similar sound sometimes out my way, but then again I live in a town where L3 resides, well a part of that ultra powerful and secretive corporation anyways. I figure they test rocket engines sometimes hence the noise.

None, I looked when it was overhead. No lights, no burners.

Though almost imperceptible, I thought I felt rumble/vibration in the last ten minutes. War on for ages. So, funny you should say that!

Helpful, thank you hf

It's bassy in sound, so might have been the F-15's at 20k, but I don't know. It sounded even bigger and bassier than them. And different to the military overheard I can hear intermittently at the moment.
