What's all this start of a message then sudden disregard?
 Quoting: Doomamatrix

They do that when they make a mistake.. then a minute or so later they will transmit again.

Thank you!

Sure, sometimes too when they make a mistake in the message they will call it out by item number. For example, in a 36 char message they may say 'correction to item 20, should be foxtrot' -- I don't hear them do that too often though.

That is not a bad idea really.. text to voice would also ensure that the message is accurate and slow enough to record by the receiver.

I wondered if any of the threads here either got GLP noticed and tagged for DNS or if given the nature of this board to break news faster than Drudge, something was a foot and TPTB took it down.

All good. I work from home, or often in front of a computer. I am someone who is fascinated, and also can't deal with silence, so I usually have the scanner on at a minimum in the background. On the constant hunt to learn.

Overall really quiet day it seems. And a super quiet night. That jamming or whatever was weird for a little bit. I'll go to bed and all hell breaks loose as always. dead3

I like the idea too. BUT... does the human voice, emotion, inflection and cadence add something to whatever message is being sent? Even if just physiological to whoever is receiving it? No idea, just thought I would throw that out there. On the other hand in 2017, you would think...

The human voice absolutely adds to message conveyed. I would like to create an application that monitors the radio frequency and converts the speech when broadcasted to a text script. It would be nice to have an app do all the work for us :)

Hi,
As a ham with 50 years of shortwave experience, I really enjoy reading the 8992 thread.
I live in the Canadian wilderness with my own shortwave station. I have programmed all the important frequencies such as 8992 and 11175 into my trusty ICOM IC718.
Solar activity greatly affects the reception and I am sure that "on quiet days" the solar activity simply does not allow for extensive communication by the military either.
Some days the various frequencies are deader than dead.

That is awesome! My grandfather was really into HAM and use to have a 35ft antenna on top of his garage/shop. He died in the early eighties, but I remember very clearly above his desk he had both a US and world map with hundreds of pins in it, where he had talked to people from all over!

The shortwave conditions have been terrible.
While some days I can hear the world, recently I have had days where 200 miles was too far.
It does make sense to me that our anti "whirled peas" friends are having difficulties communicating.
