After midnight - Mom takes her kid WITH her to go shopping. Why? Does she work all day? Does she have NO ONE to leave the kid with, and rather than leave him home alone, this is the least objectionable option?

Why leave him in the car? He's sleeping, and he WILL sleep through till she comes back....was the car locked? Did she assume he'd be fine and sleep the whole time. She probably had done it in the past.

I'm not going to pile on with the HEAT IN THE CAR issue because it WAS midnight....

How about being a responsible parent and not leaving your child alone in car unattended?

Also, assuming it was a warm and/or hot day, not smart on many levels. Bad parenting leads to bad outcomes.

Critical thing is ALL 3 suspects are in custody.

Not a bad parent! You should be able to leave your 6 year old in the car for 5 to 10 minutes, and no one should touch them. This is how a civilized community should be.
Blame the jerks that stole and killed. The parent was just trying to accommodate the kid.

When I grew up in the 1970's lots of time kids where left in the car when parents ran into the store. Parents were not seen as being bad for it. And as a community, people looked out for each others kids as well. We were more civilized back than I guess.
