I was on a statin for a few months and it just about killed me. On the other hand, my husband has used a statin for many years and he has no side affects. I tried to get him to stop, but he won't. And after I quit the statin, it took a good 6 months to resume a halfway normal life. Bad bad stuff.

It's based on the myth that high cholesterol causes heart disease. Correlation is not causation. It's like saying smoke causes fire. So they have a drug which suppresses the symptom without addressing the cause.

Statins deplete the body of Coenzyme Q10, an essential antioxidant. The drug companies know this but push the drug anyway without even recommending a COQ10 supplement be taken. It's the COQ10 depletion which causes most of the drug's nasty side effects.

My dad lauded the statins since he started using them in his 40s, happily proclaiming that he could finally eat out of the vending machines at work, and gas station hot dogs, without fear of it killing him.

He didn't age particularly rapidly that I could tell, nor had brain damage, nor diabetes ...

But he dropped dead of a massive heart attack at 62 despite his under-control cholesterol.

Just another piece of evidence that shows we are systematically being disabled, killed and during the process any wealth we have taken. If its made by a corporation stay the fuck away. They are ALL in on it together. Food, medicine, whatever.
We can beat this only if we turn away. Grow your own food, even a little helps. Learn homeopathic meds and get off the pharma. For gods sake DO NOT VAX!

I was put on statins after a heart attack a few years ago. I realized I had neglected to make my car payment for three months (I had the money and am religious about doing it every other paycheck) and didn't even realize it until I went to make it and it showed so much arrears. I also had severe muscle aches. I researched the meds I was on to figure out the culprit and realized quickly it was the statins.

More research showed that cholesterol is not only NOT bad, it is critically important to brain function. What occurs to cause heart artery blockage is that artery walls start fraying and breaking down and cholesterol flocks to the site to patch over the weak spots. It piles up, causing blockage and heart attacks/strokes. So you don't eliminate cholesterol, you keep your artery walls healthy!

Check out Linus Pauling's work on high vit C/Lysine therapy for this issue. When I dumped statins, I started taking a lot of Vit C (20,000 mg/day) and Lysine (4,000 mg/day), plus a bunch of other stuff. I feel good, am going to have artery ultrasound in June to make sure I'm staying unblocked.

My cardiologist and I argued about this endlessly but I stood my ground. Told him to stop listening to the drug hussies and google it, that things have changed since he was in med school. I see more and more articles about the danger of statins...

You sound like you got it figured out! Good for you. I'm glad you read up and found out what was going on. We're really on our own these days. You have to look out for yourself, no one else is going to.

I totally refused the Statins my doc wanted me on...not taking them.

I keep it under control to the point where I have ridiculously healthy stats and a BMI exactly in the middle of optimal with no drugs, supplements or actual exercise.

I only eat meat roughly 1-4 times a month and I avoid flour. I only buy the best butter, cheese, eggs and oils I can find, and I use them sparingly on my otherwise plant-heavy diet. I eat shitloads of spinach and beans, and really good butter and olive oil.

I'm the only one in my very large family defying the heart disease patterns, and they are all trying everything they can ... except diet.

Once I really realized that not eating until I could procure good, real food was way better than eating crap, it was easy.

I took them a few yrs ago and my c# was only 204. Well I experienced extreme leg muscle cramps esp. in my inner thigh muscles. My wife would punch the spasms and more would crop up until I stopped taking them! Also I had some memory loss esp. trying to remember #s. Today my c# is between 180-190 so I dont get any yapping from the Dr. and there aint no way I will ever take those again.

My mom took cholesterol medicine for many years, she died of a stroke after getting worse from vascular dementia. Her last test result showed her cholesterol was 100.
Cholesterol pills didn't help her at all, since she wasn't nearly that sick when she started taking them. I think there might be a relationship between the pills and her worsen condition.

Policosanol (which is sold at many health food stores for very cheap prices) is so effective that it us often compared to statin drugs. Below is from a government Pub Med study:

I'm sure you all know this already but for future readers who might not ...

Cholesterol ONLY comes from animal products, because animals make it themselves (like we do naturally) from plants (or animals) they ingest.

To me, the logical way to keep cholesterol down is to not eat EXCESSIVE animal products.

If we had to kill, grow or forage all our food, we'd be expending a lot more energy and definitely eating less animal cholesterol in terms of overall volume of food. If it was wild food it would have less saturated fat and cholesterol.

The more plants in the diet, the more fiber to push out the cholesterol before it gunks up the works.

This is true if cholesterol is the symptom rather than the cause, as well.

I look at it all like being way overboard on macro nutrients (fats, proteins and carbs) compared to micronutrients ... we're putting the wrong fuel in, gunking up some parts, causing parts to wear out ...

... all the while starving our bodies of the crucial nutrients found in abundance in brightly colored plant foods

...and then in the case of statins treating the symptoms and not the cause.

These doctors should know better by now, anyway. There was a study done YEARS ago that showed statins reduce cholesterol but have no affect on cardiac death rates.

Yeah, the doctors have NO CLUE how to heal a damn thing. They just push pills to manage symptoms, cure nothing. I'm also an adherent of a guy who calls himself the Paleo Cardiologist. He was a conventional medical doctor until he realized he was probably killing people using conventional techniques. For heart patients, he says you can eat animal fat all day long (butter, steak, burger, etc). What you can't eat is synthetic fat such as canola, corn, veg oil, so fried foods are pretty much out. And veggies, low carb, zero sugar are required. Much better than that depressing diet they send you home with after heart attack!

I don't know if it's working or not. I DO know doctors have no answers and their treatment could well kill me, so I figure I have nothing to lose by doing the research and trying to get healthy without all the poisons they push.

I cut the goddamn HFCS out of my diet completely, and cut the refined carbs to 1/4 of the previous amount. Cholestorol went fro 600 or so to 160 within a year.

I eat meat and fat like mad.

I'm not old enough for that shit, but I know some relatively young people (30s) who take it for their "high cholesterol."

They take it, and suffer the symptoms/reduced quality of life. I think they're nuts. I advise against it, but they don't pay attention.
