The US Needs To Offer Small Business Classes In High School | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 5191813 United States 06/06/2017 03:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They had excellent business education in my high school in the late 80s. Business Law and Business Math and both were well taught at my school. Of course these were electives and as such were headed only in slightly higher regard than home economics and woodshop by college entrance boards. There also used to be excellent business oriented clubs which made a big difference in my schooling; DECA and FBLA. With apologies to The Donald, business education can't be The Apprentice and Shark Tank. Sales is the world of business; picking up the phone and getting hung up on, knocking on a door and speaking to a business owner face to face, understanding their problems and contemplating solutions and finding out how to make yourself and your value proposition attractive to a buyer...in real life. If you've made a sale and eaten your kill as it were, you are excluded to believe you can do it again and again. |

The lack of both of these in university students is astounding and one of the prime reasons for the "transformative" change in behavior and mindset in those four years. I also agree with small business classes as well as bring back civics courses. Last Edited by Zedakah on 06/06/2017 03:35 PM |

They've already ruined it for boys by changing curriculum and testing methods better suited for girls the past 20 years. The same girls who fill 66% of universities throughout the USA (vs 1/3 boys) get their degrees and quit their jobs 10 years later to have kids, rarely returning to the job they were educated for. The same highly educated girls are over 50% likely to divorce later in life. Its all about spliting us up and dumbing us down. Don't take my word for it, here's a 5 minute vid by a feminist. If Trump (godspeed) gets 8 years, I believe he will defund idiot universities and do his best to change this tragedy. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26882900 As well as teaching high school students the financial fundamentals such as balancing a checkbook (which is still useful even today) and tax preperations. That was literally ALL they taught in my senior-year high school economics class. While certainly something people ought to know, it has very little to do with economics, and would probably be better for a home ec class, if they still offer those. I sat in the back of class reading The Fountainhead most of the semester, as I had been balancing a checkbook and paying taxes for three years already. Good call, OP. Real economics, civics, and small business management would all be great additions. But, I bet they'll just keep teaching about gay stuff and minority stuff instead. To get out of our economic malaise, we need to allow high school students learn how to start their own businesses. This wouldn't need to be a required course, but an elective. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75027874 Gardening should be an elective too, in the whole country. On the job apprenticeships after HS for 95% of all jobs requiring training too. Zero college for anything other than advanced level education, doctors, attorneys etc etc. Get paid to learn. Seriously, our parents are morons. They fugged this country up through complacency. (reading, writing and arithmetic) those are so screwed over that they really can't think of the other things yet. once that is done, i'm all for some real life things tho, like home economics, business, shop. sure, bring those back if money allows. |

No. People NEED to avoid having children until they have a solid financial and INTELLECTUAL base and vocation to bestow upon their offspring. You apes are breeding like rabbits and casting your spawn to the wind like insects. It is the greatest crime to bring a child into a world with parents who are unable to offer it a constructive place. It's time to pull your ape heads out of your ape asses and face the truth. |

They had to research start up costs, marketing, overhead, payroll expenses etc. Our high school also offers personal finance which shows kids how to budget, pay bills and keep a checkbook balanced. |

I was a small business owner (fiber optics) throughout my 20's to my mid 30's. I really enjoyed running a business & I pretty much had to learn through experience. Taking business classes in my high school years would've been beneficial, I'm sure. I homeschool & have decided to offer business lessons to my children when they are older. I think it would be excellent for all children to have this option. |

Skills that are actually valuable and needed like electrician, carpenter, plumber, HVAC, CNA, LPN.....and so forth. NOt everyone is college material and most kids in college should not even be there. THe only college degrees that are worth a crap are those in the medical, legal and teaching professions. Period. |

Bought an airplane on a leaseback program and luckily a lawyer and accountant were trying to run a business where they showed me how to rent the plane out under an LLC so I could deduct costs of the plane from my taxes. (Distributive Education Club of America) that was really popular for decades bu waned during the 90's but still exist. Many colleges have S.I.F.E. which stands fo Students In Free Enterprise. You want to talk about brilliant forward strategic thinking young adults, this program is it. However, to your point OP, it all needs to be refreshed and become a national platform. And there is likely no one better to make this happen than Donald J. Trump. 5 stars! |
