There is nothing new under the sun.

Back in the 60's when I was living in California, we had the "Zodiac Killer" all over the newspapers. Then there was Charles Manson as well. Just one block from our house (and across the street from my grade school I attended at that time) there was a grisly murder that took place outside as the family tried to escape, then the guy blew his head off with a shotgun. Brains all over the garage door for us to see the next day walking to school. Then when I moved to Seattle in the mid 70's, there was the Green River Killer, and of course Ted Bundy was on the loose. And here us kids were, young teens out and about riding our bikes and camping overnight... Our parents must have been worried.

So... not the world we grew up in? I think it is. We just have selective memory.
