Why is she depressed? Why would you want to remain in a relationship with someone who is so depressed they must be continuously medicated for it and why would you want to continue seeing someone who is a hypocrite with a double standard?

Alcoholics are usually the last people to admit they have a problem.

I'm not saying you are an alcoholic.

Of course an Alcoholic or an Addict will not stop until they admit they have a problem. Do you think you have a problem with alcohol? If you say yes, then quit. IF you say no then you are not going to quit.

Obviously your Girlfriend thinks it is a problem. Why she thinks that I do not know - but she is one of the closet people to you (being your GF and all) and would be one of the few people to know if your drinking is a problem for you.

Her being on antidepressants is not important to the issue. The fact that you throw that out here suggests that you are very touchy about your drinking habits. It also suggests that there are serious issues within your relationship.

In fact her being on Antidepressants means she is getting her ills treated - that is always a step in the right direction.

Ultimately its on you to decide if you are an alcoholic. I think you are based on what you have said so far. Thus I would strongly suggest that you get a program of recovery and talk to people who are in recovery to find out more.

You are probably alcoholic and if it is a few beers a day at 25 it will be 8-10 a day at 40 and so on.

I drink to relieve myself after a hard days work.

I feel tired and stressed out after work.

I dont see a doctor and a beer is what helps me kick back and relax.

No, I don't think you're an alcoholic. There's nothing wrong with drinking a few drinks a day. It's different for everyone, but to me it sounds like you like your beer, that's all. People are too quick to call someone an addict these days.

Yup, and I can guarantee you that it won't stop with just your drinking because women want to recreate men to fit the image of what THEY want, not what the man is. Trust me, just like a 12-pack of beer or an old appliance a woman can be replaced.

Anti-depressants serve a legitimate medical purpose. Alcohol does not. Apples and oranges. Depresion is a medical condtion, it's not just being bummed out.

If you actually only drink 2 or less beers per day, it's not a big problem. But it might be for her. But it's BS to say "oh yeah, well you take pills!" if those pills are legitimate treatment. Since you are taking this line, OP, I suspect to have a drinking problem. Which may or may not be full-blown alcoholism.

I totally disagree.

Anti-depressants are nothing more than a drug to help you cope with life.

The only reason why society accepts it is because instead of going to the local 7-11 and paying $7.99 for a six pack, you go to the local doctor and pay $150 office visit, to have them sign a little piece of paper that you then take to the local pharmacist and pay another $200 to get your drugs.

Its all about money and who is controlling it.

They will tell you that drugs (and alcohol) are bad.
But it is only the drugs that they aren't making a profit from.

Anti-depressant medication has been around for eons, but the medical, and pharma industry doesn't make any money by you smoking some bud.
Hence why it is illegal and 'looked down upon'

The bottom line is she has no room to talk about your choice of drug when she is a happy camper on drugs herself.

Tell her that you will quit your drug of choice the day she quits hers.

The girl is more important. I'm sure you try not to drink around her already. You like to be able to do things together, shes not a drinker. Then work on the meds by showing her they are bad and frankly dont work. Good luck to the both of you.
