You did not win the fucking powerball the winner was here in my town of Richmond Indiana at the speedway that I go to every other fucking day. If you was the winner what is across the street from Speedway where the ticket was bought..

If you answer that, What street did you drive on to get to the speedway... bsflag bsflag bsflag bsflag bsflag

OP here...

I just LOVE these people who speak with such authority, as if they have a crystal ball, or know everything about everybody. Maybe you did not read what I said in my earlier post. Read this carefully:

"Quote: "4. DO NOT GO HOME."

"Well, it's too late for that. I was visiting my sister in Indiana last week when I bought the ticket (Thursday). I flew home (Oregon) Friday night, and have been here since. In fact, other than work, I have gone NOWHERE. I am too burnt out and tired, from lack of sleep."
-----------------------------------------------------------

Listen... I do not live there! My sister does. I made that perfectly clear. Did you get that? I was only there for 5 days, and have only been there once before that.

Believe whatever makes you happy.

I've got things to do. Have a nice life.

Re: I am the Powerball winner
Remove yourself from the burden of guilt by donating to some worthwhile, solid charities that check out. You'll know the people that you can best confide in and trust. Keep them close. Retain anonymity, and help out strangers in need. Live for the goodness in life, and release yourself from the enslavement that too much money can have on a person so suddenly. Eventually, you'll find a space to where you can make better decisions for your family and friends.

Last but not least, do yourself some good. Tend to your health and welfare first and foremost. Get yourself involved in programs designed to promote better health and mental outlook. Meet new people, and think about your future in the sense of possibilities.

Don't allow the money to rule you.

Re: I am the Powerball winner
i would wait a while--I think you have up to 180 days to claim the prize.

Imagine thousands upon thousands of grifters/con artists all knowing your name and having a picture too!

If I were you, i would wait a couple months.

Plan out some moves with a trusted financial adviser, just don't let him/her invest in the stock market.

Buy lot's of Gold and Silver.

Buy a lot of land.

Build your house with solar panels, internal water/sewage systems and an electrified perimeter.

Buy a house and land in a foreign country, just in case.....

...And make sure you officially DON'T OWN A THING!!!

Use TRUSTS for everything you purchase.

Hide some money in Swiss accounts--5 to 10 million just in case you get in a "bind".

Re: I am the Powerball winner
Whole Lotta Luck

The 'Scratch, Dig-and-Pick' instant lottery ticket stared up at him, silently mocking his choice of what he had just spent his last dollar on. Well, it was soup and a sandwich or a longshot chance of winning the big one... which would you have picked?

The moment of truth was at hand, and Sam slid his lucky fingernail over the rubbery gray blocks that hid his potential fortune. Grinding away at the top row of squares Sam unviels a series of animals, none of them matching. 'Damn!" He cursed in the direction where he imagined his unlistening god to be.

He knew that if he uncovered a trio of butt sniffing dogs, his financial future would be set. Never again would he have to lower himself to begging for spare change or dancing the macarana for pennies down at the losers wharf. He was meant for more than this, and again, he prayed for this to be his ticket out of here.

Working feverishly at the second set of sqares he uncovers ...wait, can it be? YES! A sniffing dog.
Okay, next square... Good Lord! Another! Just one more dog ...just one more...please!
The third square ... he peeled it slowly, not daring to look at first. He glanced downward.
CRAP! A squatting monkey. No fair! He hated his god now, and in deep despair wished his own life would end.

Wait... another row of squares to rub off... another chance of happiness.
He dug into them, muttering his prayer of hope. This time, he rubbed at all three at once, rubbery bits falling from his ticket into his lap.

He could hardly believe his eyes... he looked again, and yet again just to be sure...
There they were, three butt sniffing dogs. Sam was overjoyed... he knew then that his god had indeed listened to him and had answered his prayers. He cried with joy and began to make his way to the lotto redemption center, his tears obscuring the crosstown bus that was at that moment bearing down on him.

At the moment that Sams face kissed the greasy grill at 40 miles per hour, he chose to change his mind and once again decided that his god was an uncaring and hateful diety who just liked to see him suffer.

His winning ticket fluttered away from his hand, drifted on the breeze for a spell, and was finally found by a ruthless businessman. Thanks to Sam, he spent that winter in the Bahamas with his sullen trophy mistress. Sams god smiled, thankful for how many benefited from Sams unwitting generosity.

Also, be wary of civil lawsuits out of the blue, attempts at extorsion, and blackmail. Like I mentioned earlier, lottery winners have a tendancy to blow through their winnings like it will always be there.

 Quoting: Asinine

Well since you don't have any dependents a living Will isn't all that important, but you should decide where that money will go in case of an accident.

and if people start throwing frivolous lawsuits at you, make sure you use your wealth to hire a great lawyer, counter-sue for at the very least pain and suffering, and make them pay for your defense. <:->

If you do decide to give money away, be sure to give to it BUSY DISCIPLINED PEOPLE (not freeloaders) who could use it for beneficial technologies (renewable/free-energy etc) or whatever your heart's desire is in making peace with yourself and the world.

Hello...

I am the 314 million dollar Powerball winner, but I am actually kind of afraid of to come forward to claim my winnings until I figure out what kind of initial impact this is going to have upon my life. I've spent a lot of time fantasizing about this happening to me someday, and now that it has, I am at a loss as to what steps I need to take to protect myself from the onslaught of friends/relatives/sales people/con-artists, ect...

Can any of you please give me a short list of things that I need to consider BEFORE coming forward? Any good financial advisers here on this board, that might be able to clue me in, as far as things to do, and things to avoid?

Thanks a lot for any assistance.

Well, I was hoping it was me that won but, I guess not. I sure could have used it. Anyway, congrats. You've gotten some fairly decent advice here-cherry pick the best of it and go from there. When you decide to pick it up take at least two "trustworthy" friends, a lawyer/accountant and your local priest-all for safe measure. Also, stop talking so much about it-best to keep this kind of thing to yourself. And, finally, pray for advice-after all, you can trust yourself (& God.) Cheers.

Try to collect anonymously. If that fails and a reporter approaches you, say my 314 million has already been cut down to about 145 mil and the state & federal government is taking about 30% more. I think I'll just keep the rest. I am making a list of people and entities that definitely won't receive money from me and the way to get on that list is to ask me to give or loan them money. Good luck, spend only the interest from your invested winnings.

Hi,

Buy lots of land on the country side. Build a house and move. Take the one lump sum option, that way you can leave
some to your family. Some in the bank, some in stocks.
Then go and smell the flowers I'm sure their scent is really sweet right about now.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 207700

Screw that. Take the long term annunity. Then SELL YOUR ANNUITY! At 314 million, you'd get $157 million on a lump sum payment. Then the gov takes half. You get 70 something million. But let's say you take the annunity. You get 314 million. You sell the annunity to a large bank for 250 million . The gov takes half. You get to keep $125 million.

Re: I am the Powerball winner
OP, just thought I might chime in here a bit.

I've known a few people who've won lotto jackpots.

One bloke that I 'know of' won 6 different jackpots. He holds the record for it in Australia btw.

He blew the lot... and over here it's tax free in one lump sum. None of that pension style (taxed) payment system you have in the US/North America.

I feel for you OP, living here in Oz, it's very dificult for 'nefarious types' to track you down due to our very strict privacy laws on data/personal info etc.

The US though, you can look up someone on google ferchrisakes.

You really need to talk to a privacy specialist over there first, you want to make sure you cannot be traced.

Some very bored & desperate types can get very adept to finding stuff out. Do what all well known rich/well off bod's do - live in another strata of lifestyle. Make yourself very unapproachable. Distance between yourself and the 'get rich quick' crowd is of utmost importance.

Question - Don't US powerball winners have to be publicly shown to the media as part of agreeing to take/receive the winnings ?

Yes. If you take a 'Lump Sum', and pay income tax, then you're done as far as the principal, but income frominvesting the principal will still be taxable.

Income from investments will be taxed differently,
and much can be done to delay or diminish them but taxes
will always be there.

Be very careful that you strictly adhere to the law,
and get a good accountant (that you can trust)
