hard to handle User ID: 311866 United States 11/09/2007 01:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | actually the truth is, all dogs are different just like people. you can't say all german shepherds this or all pit bulls that. they each have an individual personality. i know shepherds that are trained to kill on command that i would completely trust with a baby puling its ears. it all depends on the dog. raise it right as a puppy and chances are pretty good that it'll be mellow as an adult. it's mostly wild dogs in packs that should concern anybody. they can be serious killers. so really stop with the disinfo about which dogs bite and which don't because the dogs on your bite list can all not bite as well. the only dogs i know of that i'll give you slack on is the chow and the not mentioned dalmation. |

He looks like he would tear a limb off but he is the biggest baby. Would probably help you carry our TV out. He even has raised kittens. Quoting: FenderI have 2 chow/lab mixes and they protect my 9 acre perimeter that surrounds my home,i love them to death and they are loving to me and the kids.Never had a problem with them biting any family member.Get to close to my fence and thats another story for strangers. i also have a pit(bonzo)that has the main yard area and he follows my 4 year old around in the yard as she plays. he has kept her from crawling through the gate a couple time as he would bark to alert me. Also have an aussie shep, hes the pain in the ass!!! and has nipped at the kids several times.he stays out at the shop/garden area.Hes not good with kids. |

Quoting: Mister ObviousAll dogs have the capacity to bite. Something that can't be classified by breed... it's just like people. It just depends on the dog. Muzzles are good (for when kids are around the dog). I agree to a certian degree, half of the responsibility is on the owner to raise and treat the dog right Swimming in a sea of fractals |

I wouldn't put credence in anything people like you have to say. ... bullshit... AC271325 is right on ya butt wipe... and too, to do anything in vain simply means that you do not have your heart in it, and as in lacking sincerity... and you, ya dorko, do not have a clue as to where AC271325's heart is at all. And let me tell ya true too... and as a mailman I'm speaking here... we are more likely to fear small dogs than big dogs any ol' time. Small dogs are a lot faster and they can hide a whole lot better too... and from all of the times I have been chased by dogs on me route... most of them have been smaller dogs. |
dobes rule User ID: 367575 United States 03/11/2008 10:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok the one that is MOST LIKELY to bite is the pitt bull. But the safest dog around children is not on the list and it is the Doberman. People dont realize it but they are one of the safest IF raised in a good home from a little little puppy. At times i get mad at people who think all Dobermans are killers because i have 10 and i repeat 10 Dobermans and i raised them all from a new born not one has bite not evan nibble at ANYONE. And Dobermans also can be with young children, even children at the age of 2 years! So if you get a doberman please i am begging you get a doberman and see how nice they really are. But dont forget that they should be raised in a good home with a loveing family. Not to go wrong that a Doberman can still be loveing if they arent raised in an ideal family. So if i was you i would get a Doberman. let your child see how GREAT they are! |
Holy Bat Shitman! Armed to the teeth. I'm outnumbered. Outgunned. But the alley is crooked, dark, and very narrow. They can't surround me. Sometimes you can beat the odds with a careful choice of where to fight. One Can Never Have 2 Many Dogs User ID: 375076 United States 03/11/2008 10:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There have been dogs, usually 2 or more at a time, in my family since I was born, and my 3 siblings all have multiple dogs too. And they've been almost all different breeds. The only ones that ever bit were a black lab I rescued from the pound and a Yorkie that resented our newborn. They both got relocated to new homes. When I married my dh he came with 2 dogs: a golden retriever and a Corgi-spaniel mix. That Corgi was never taught to be a beta dog and considered herself the alpha dog of the pack because my dh failed to train her. (He's so passive it's a major issue in our marriage, but I digress.) Oh, yeah, she'd bite you in a second if you asked her to do anything she didn't want to. We "managed" her well until she died of old age. (Damn step-child!) Breeds we've had that never even growled: Chihuaha, Doberman, German Shepherd, Cairn Terrier, multiple yellow labrador retrievers, collies, alaskan malamute, beagles and various mutts there-like, multiple shih tzus, collie-like mutts, jack russells, miniature pinscher (sp) (dog from hell!). And all these dogs were raised with children underfoot from newborns on up. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE OWNER! Get the alpha-beta relationships straight and all is well. Teach the pack heirarchy to your dogs -- they WANT to know it -- and then peace will reign permanently even at mealtimes (until you have to teach the newest dog, of course.) Keep in mind, this is not the same as obedience training. It's a mental/emotional thing. I've never taught any of my dogs to sit or beg or even come on command (though I always fantasized I would when they were puppies). But they DO come when called and DON'T get out of place in the pack that is the humans and canines sharing the space under one roof. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 384874 United States 03/11/2008 10:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey OP..you forget Chinese Pugs as a very safe choice for people with children. I have two males...and they are sweethearts. I have two little girls who just love them. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 390436I agree, pugs are really great with small children. They are very patient and gentle. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 340209 United States 03/11/2008 10:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | YES, YES, and more YES!!!! It's about the relationship. By its own nature if a dog does not know who's the Alpha is then it will assume the role and hell will prevail. If the owner does not KEEP the Alpha role intact and consistent with the dog hell will prevail. A dog is perfectly content being a Beta or Charlie or whatever as long as it does not sense any inconsistency and becomes confused as to its place in the pack. They even have to know the children are dominant over them as well. And dominance is not about abuse or ill-treatment. It's about attitude. |

Sounded like he would kill. Of course he got a goodie every time. If he knew you he would literally tell you hello. (herrow like astro) He was so mellow, all the little tots w/moms from the neighborhood would come by to pet him. He would try to hide behind my knees then gently shake hands and let them pet him. |
