A snuff film is a film/video that depicts the real, sexualized murder of a person or people for the express purpose of distribution for entertainment or financial exploitation.

This definition incorporates the three essential ingredients of snuff.

1. Real

If the film is not real, then it's faux or fake snuff which exists in multitudes online and film/video.

2. Sexualized Murder

Real executions have been filmed since the Advent of film itself. In modern times, real murders are filmed in a variety of ways; cell phones & camcorders being two popular methods. Since both of these types of films can be easily found, how does one explain why the snuff film is still considered an urban legend?

Distribution cannot be a sticking point since terrorists (Mexican cartels and Iraqi extremists) and serial killers (Ukrainian Maniacs) have distributed their filmed murders online. So what separates snuff from executions and thrill killings?

Sexualized murder. Lust murder. The sexual component must be visible on film. The vic must be sexually tortured/humiliated/degraded and murdered in an explicit manner. Leaving no doubt to the viewer as to the sexual motive behind the murder. This is the main reason snuff virtually does not exist. It is also the reason for snuff being considered a genre of pornography.

Lust murder is an intensely private act. For the most part, exhibitionism on film is counterintuitive to lust murder. Hollywood and some (unsuccessful) serial killers may disagree, but in the end most guys don't want to risk the chance of watching their greatest hits with a jury of their peers in the off chance they're more Ted Bundy than Jack the Ripper.

3. Distribution

The real, sexual murder on film must be distributed. The film has to be seen by a willing third party. The film cannot be seen only by law enforcement or some unsuspecting John Doe. The audience (even if it's an audience of one) either pays for the viewing or gets to see the film through trade or association.

The reason for distribution is either for entertainment purposes or financial gain. The latter motive while strongly associated with the term since its inception is the absolute most unlikely of the two reasons. Snuff is a micro-niche and the thought of making a living off of a crime that is punishable by death or life in prison even for a first offense is a dream born in a pipe.

The purpose of entertainment would be more akin to watching pornography as opposed to horror in a real life scenario especially given the sexual overtones of the film. Intensely sexual deviants drinking from the Unholy Grail of Ultracore.

The viewing would most likely be acquired through trade or association. Real world contacts cultivated through networking in the underground which would lead to either trading one's own handiwork for another's or the extraordinary experience of watching a rara avis with a generous dark-minded being.

I didn't say it was an exclusively Jewish thing, only that it happened. Also with Israel's sex trafficking from the Eastern European nations I would expect that the Jews aren't big on women's rights, however that's not to say that snuff films don't exist in the Middle East. I'm sure they do.
