DUH....
Why in the world would you expose a tiny child to horror movies? What are you thinking? Go to a parenting class. If you are missing something this big, god knows what else youīre doing to that baby!

dunno, but when my daughter was that age, robocop was her favorite

she is 19 now and so far she has not killed anyone, lol

i think it depends, if you make it clear that its not real and you watch with her in case she does get frightened

but it will affect her, everything affects us, which programming do you want her to have to shed later on?

What does drinking have to do with parenting? Unless, of course, youīre drunk in front of her, or give her alcohol. Your child is not your FRIEND. Your child is a child looking to you for guidance and PARENTING. Grown ups do things children donīt...like watching horror movies and drinking. Please, go to a parenting class....they donīt "judge" you...they teach you.

my point is that, i cannot go to parental counseling unless iīm going to lie about certain things.. and doesnīt that defeat the purpose?

AC 9:25: Parenting classes are not inquisitions...they donīt grill you for what you do, when you do it, etc. Actually, the fun. Other parents are there, you swap stories, help each other, and each class is usually centered around a topic. You can contribute, or not, as you like. They have babysitters, usually, so youīre not out any $$ for that. You form a network with other parents, keeping you from being so isolated. What are you afraid of?

Re: my four year old loves horror movies
It depends what horror movies sheīs watching. I used to watch old black and white B Japanese horror movies that were on t.v. Saturday nights. If sheīs watching newer horror movies, itīs probably not good; too much blood, gore, and outright murder.

Re: my four year old loves horror movies
I donīt allow my 9 year old daughter to watch horror movies. My son who is 16 can if he wants but usually chooses not to. My wife loves them. Myself, I hate them.

As for a 4 year old, no way. Their mind is incapable of knowing the difference between reality and a movie. That is why they have imaginary friends. BTW, that is a good thing and there is no good reason to let them absorb horror in any form. They canīt, in any way, put it in itīs proper context and will invarable take it out of context. Who knows what this can lead to.

you cannot shield your children from every evil, i think thatīs why so many preachers kids go wild once they get a taste of the real world

where do you draw the line? no horror, no sex, no drinking, no drugs

thatīs not reality

Re: my four year old loves horror movies
Doglike: "Thatīs not reality..." You get to be a child for a very brief time. Soon enough you will see the horror and īrealityī of life...why start at 4 years old? Why distort your childlike magical thinking at 4 years old? Children at this age see their parents as GODS and GODDESSES...they look to them to keep them safe and give them love. Is sharing a sick horror movie showing your child love? Too many times parents think children just īgrow upī and everything will be fine. No. You as a parent set the tone, set the limits, and model the behavior you want your child to have. If youīre drinking to excess, getting stoned, and watching horror movies...all I can say is get ready for a wild ride when theyīre teenagers.

"If youīre drinking to excess, getting stoned, and watching horror movies...all I can say is get ready for a wild ride when theyīre teenagers."

Well , I did all but the stoned part and some things not on the list and my girl turned out ok. Never been in any trouble and always home on time.

I get your point though and I agree, we do get to be a child only once, but I donīt think letting a 4 year old be in the room while watching a movie is the end of the world. The attention span of a 4 y/o is short. I think the OPīs thread title is misleading at best.

I wasnīt a good parent, because I did not have a good example set for me. Some of you are lucky, you have great parents, some are not so lucky. But most do the best they can.
