I work in a toll booth on the NJ Turnpike and have noticed an increase of cars that seem to have the sulfur (rotten egg smell) coming from the exhaust. Could this be due to an additive being placed in gasoline or maybe because the refiners have stopped removing the sulfur?

Anyone notice the smell coming from their cars?

Actually, I've noticed that from newer cars during hard accelaration. Don't know why.

It's the smell of a new catalytic converter 'breaking in', hence new cars having that smell.

Actually they make the sulfer smell more prominent.

It's an alien invention and they are trying to make our planet more like home.

Why did they require diesel to be ultra-low-sulfur but not gasoline? That ain't right. I'm paying almost $5 a gallon to run a VW diesel Jetta. Fortunately it averages 34 MPG.

They are getting to the bottom of the barrel with oil ...it is running out but no one wants to admit it. The bottom smells like that.

They can't get all the sour out of that sour crude these days.
