Walmart self checkout stepping up their game.
Went to do my weekly sunday morning grocery shopping and noticed the self checkouts are now detecting unscanned items. Went to scan some packaged tomatoes and the UPC was kinda blurry like the ink had smudged. I tried to scan it three times and it wouldn't recognize the item.

I put it aside, after thinking about just putting it in the bag cause I was in a hurry, however a prompt came up on the screen that said an 'unscanned item was detected'. And then it says 'an associate will be there shortly' and I am now unable to move forward with the transaction.

I wait for the dothead to come over and scan her smartphone and notice on the screen there's an overhead video of me trying to scan the tomatoes three times. Thankfully I didn't put it in the bag.

She leaves and about 5 items later the same prompt comes on the screen for 'unscanned item detected'. However this time the item was scanned and on the receipt. Once again I can no longer move forward with the transaction.
She comes over minutes later, scans her phone and I once again see the overhead video of me scanning the item. What a total PITA, I guess this is where we're headed now treating everyone like a criminal.

I'm done with this self checkout bullshit, for the extra time I spent waiting for an associate to override the error message twice I could've just waited in the line with an actual cashier.

And its not like they're giving me a discount for doing their job of scanning and bagging the groceries anyway. I really need to stop shopping at Walmart.

Wonder how many people will just copy a upc code for tomatoes and tape it to a TV?

With that new eye in the sky technology they're using, I wonder if they have the means to tell when you don't scan the case of water or large bag of dog food in the cart?

they catch stuff like that. You would have to have exact weight and size of the tomatoes so obviously the tv would throw the system off. And when you hit skip bagging it auto alerts the goons sitting in the office watching and they look at what you are doing.

Most self checkouts will have a weight associated with the scanned item. If they don't detect that weight in the bagging area, it will trigger a flag.

also, try leaving/or not something in your basket unscanned. The electric eyes detect it in the basket.

Meanwhile people try to stuff whole sides of beef down their pants and walk out the front door and employees are told to stand down.

I would just like to see self-checkout lines setup by race.

one certain race seems to be about 50% slower checking out. And then 25% of them are talking on their cellphone while they check out and they are about 200% slower.

a White Male only self-checkout line could service so many more people efficiently

My local Wally World has those self checkout stations too. I hate them. I only buy stuff that I can just scan and go. I never buy produce or anything else you have to weigh and look up a code. I'd rather go to regular grocery store for those items.

I'm the customer. I'm paying $$$. I don't want to look up a code or remember one or go through any of that.

I will pay a little extra a normal grocery store so I do not have to do that.

It's really more of a mild protest against them than anything else. I hate having to do all that crap when I'm the customer.

The Walmarts around here have one, maybe two
registers open, with lines around the block.
(I assume because no cashiers available)

If you want to WAIT, get in line.

They are forcing people to check themselves out.

(I remember when filling stations were full
service, because as a kid I worked at one)

When "SELF-SERVE" began people were throwing
a fit.

It's just another example of the race to the
BOTTOM.

I don't know if it's ENTROPY or what but since
I was born (1950) I've watched EVERYTHING go
down the drain except technology, which was
SUPPOSED to make things better, but I don't
see that either.

We were healthy active kids, playing baseball,
football, riding bikes...
TODAY, kids sit like zombies on their asses
playing with iPhones and other mobile devices.
Probably have coronaries before they're 30.
