Lazy_Bank8558: No real “hub”, but quite a few Japanese expat and part-Japanese families live in the western suburbs of Brisbane.

Ironside State School at St Lucia has (or had) a number of Japanese and half-Japanese kids and a strong Japanese mother’s group that was very active in cultural events and the school fete. Of course, depending upon how your wife feels about Japanese mothers and social obligations, that may be a good or a bad thing!

There’s a Japanese shop at Indooroopilly, Genki Mart, that’s a good option for groceries and snacks.

There’s also a Saturday hoshu-ko (supplementary school) on Saturdays at Corinda, in the western suburbs.

There was a Japanese mother’s playgroup at Taringa and another one that met in the city library in “Brisbane Square” in the city; however, I don’t know if they’re still running as my kids are teenagers now.

Japanese live wherever they can steal industrial (and state) secrets.
