Why are schools closing along the path of the eclipse?

I suspect it's liability. They don't want to keep kids inside during the eclipse and force them to miss it, but their lawyers are telling them that if a kid gets eye damage, their ass is grass. Close school and eclipse viewing becomes a parent problem.

I think the proper blue is the UN helmet blue for roofs...

The eclipse is happening at 3 in the afternoon during dismissal. Many cities along. The path are expecting thousands of visitors including 100,000-300,000 in certain cities. The result is a lot of traffic. Let me ask you. Would you want your child reliant on getting home during the eclipse? Traffic, strangers from all over, walking home alone in the dark? Wouldn’t you want to experience the eclipse with your child? Wouldn’t you want to avoid being caught in traffic for hours? It’s a scale of an event you have to experience to understand.

People keep saying this shit about 100-300k people traveling around like it's gospel and I just don't buy it. Everyone is so jaded and in their phones 24/7 now, they don't give a fuck about a 4 min long nature event. Not to mention they have to work too, on a weekday.

Exactly, I'm sure there are some out there somewhere who have planned a trip into the area but I have heard zero hubbub about people planning a special vacation just to watch it... Just not that big of a deal to most.

I've been to school during an eclipse. It was no big deal, it was an educational experience.

Something kids don't get anymore, just fear and compliance.

What if it's a cloudy day you we don't even see the eclipse? That's like 80% likely in April in the Great Lakes region.

Lasts from about 2 to 3:20 in the afternoon at least here in Pennsylvania. Lot of schools let at around that time. Was about 2:30 for me back when I was in high school.
