You don't even need a thermal blanket! You can use any solid object,as long as you don't touch it. Leave a four to six inch air gap and you will be invisible to IR.... You WILL show a heat "cloud" above you hover from rising heat, but this will be indistinct and if you have a high enough "wall" in front of you (again, don't touch it!) this will spread greatly and most likely not be noticed. If you wrap yourself in a space blanket, you will indeed block the transfer heat, and break up your signature, but you will show up on IR intensely at any point there is a gap in the coverage as heat will be forced through those areas. In general however, if you treat the night with the same respect you would use in day light trying to infiltrate, you won't have a problem regardless. IR or not, it is still basically a LOS condition. If they could not see you during the day, you are most likely covered at night. *This has no effect on the new Millimeter wave systems however. Luckily they are not that good at a distance yet... Still in a few years we may be in real trouble here. Take care and be well friends. D. And all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "save us!" And I'll look down and whisper "No." |

Minimizes. IIRC you can adjust the sensitivity of the FLIR on the aircraft. Lots of factors involved, ambient temp, ground temp, shit like that.... scimitar User ID: 549266 United States 12/01/2008 10:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | For a highly sensitive Long wave IR sensor...... like the latest upgrade to the Apaches, can see temperature variations to less that a tenth of a degree C. You can minimize the signature, but you CANNOT hide it. Remember though it is a differential signal...... the differnce between your surroundings and the temperature you emit. Obviously if the ground around you is @ 98.6 then you would be in luck if you were sitting still and not exerting yourself. Even If you are covered by a thermal shield the heat has to go somewhere. Now they may not see a human form, but they will definately see a signature of some sort. The OP was referring to using short wave IR emitters to blind near IR sensitive cameras, or at least overload and saturate the sensor so only a white blob appears.
