What is it about Religion that attracts so many mentally unstable people?

I've always thought it was strange how when we see someone out on the street, on a bus, or anywhere in public talking to an invisible imaginary being, we call them crazy.

But when so many people do the very same thing under the premise of religion, they are not?

If we label the man on the street who believes in his invisible friends as insane, why don't we do the same thing when religious people do it too?

Kind of a hypocritical biased attitude we've been conditioned with, IMO.

Do you really think that person lives for G-d...Man are you easily tricked...no wonder you're so bitter. I'd be bitter too if I believed everything at face value.

Just in case you haven't, here are many synonyms for you:

cover, cover-up, false front, blind, disguise, facade, mask, cloak, screen, smokescreen, camouflage.

So now, go ahead and blame G-d for this persons wickedness and lies. You scoffers are like a clockwork of flawed logic. For as smart as you all pretend to be, you can't seem to reason your way out of a paper bag...


And ironic enough...most mentally ill people I have met...think 'they' are G-d. It's called megalomania and is very common among the mentally ill.

Hmmm...sounds like a certain sect I know of (just in case you are too slow to figure out which sect I'm talking about...pssst...it's Atheism). Funny how you spin it though.

Of course, no one posting here in this thread has even a hint of mental instability whatsoever. I am sure each and every one here is not only perfectly adjusted and normal, but also highly and uniquely evolved. So much so, that the need for any further evolution is quite unnecessary. I am humbled.

Good point...none of them were/are Christians. False Christianity and the Completely Bogus 'Theory' of Evolution (merely another religion) have destroyed G-d's image. Can we stop blaming G-d...please?

I hear ya opee. It's like when they create threads, useless threads trying to debunk something they don't believe in. Like they haven't got anything better to do than obsess about things that aren't a part of their lives. Sheesh!

They are probably attracted to the environment that doesn't judge them for what's in between their ears. Intellectualism and psychology can become cults in the wrong hands, by the way.

You have to wonder who exactly they're trying to convince, maybe themselves in many cases?

exactly!! or if i had a kid and made up 10 rules like you have to do your laundry and do the dishes and if you break them you will burn in a firery pit for all of eternity i would have DSS in my house taking my kid.

That CNN focused on him being Pentacoastal says more about them. 80% of Americans claim to be Christian. It had nothing to do with his acts, just shows he was a poor Christian.

I noticed the question was; What is it about Religion that attracts so many mentally unstable people?

Could've asked why so many nuts go to heavy metal shows, or NASCAR, or roller skating.

I doubt there is an unusually high number of mentally unstable people attracted to religions.
With half the US population on prescription drugs for depression and the other half self-medicating, I think you may have to define 'mentally unstable' for a meaningful discussion.
