Anonymous Coward User ID: 270625 United States 09/16/2009 06:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got a knock at the door today and looked out my peephole to see a mexican lady standing outside my door. She was accompanied by a tall bald headed guy. I figured she would leave after knocking three times but she just stood on my landing and knocked on the neighbors door as well. I didn't open it and decided to call the front office to ask if this is someone they send. Front office said no they might be solicitors. Quoting: questions 730810Well about 20 minutes went by and I got in my car to go get some dinner. On the way out I see the mexican girl in a golf cart next to a car that the bald headed guy is getting in. So I asked if that was her knocking on my door. I told her I thought she was selling candy bars or something so I didnt open the door. So the other guy says he's a building inspector then he joked that he will come by tomorrow at 7:15 am and asked why I didn't open my door. I told him that I didn't know them etc and he said why do I look like a scary guy. He says don't worry she has the keys to the apartments if you aren't home. I plan to call the front office tomorrow because they said they will leave notices on doors if they plan on entering your apartment. The only time this happens is when the bug guy comes around to spray. I was locked and loaded if she had put a key in my door they would have had some explaining to do. Maybe they are looking for drugs or something but if the Building Inspector guy sees my shotgun propped up in the corner is it legal to have even if I bought it at a sporting goods store and haven't registered it? I don't really like the idea of this guy coming in my apartment without my notice. My dogs would bite him probably and I might be startled into shooting first. They're probably from acorn and casing your place. If they enter your premises shoot there fucking asses. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 613088 United States 09/16/2009 06:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Are you talking about a building inspector for a city/county or a building inspector for your building? You need to find our rules for your building. Do they allow firearms? You need to find out laws for your city/county also. If it's a city/county building inspector I don't see why it is any of their business if you have a firearm or not. So what the hell are they looking for in their inspection? If it's not in your lease that people can come in with a key when you are not there I would put a stop to that. Your building super should have known who these people were if they have keys. It sounds awfully fishy to me. |

The building might have a rule against it; but they can not search your home without reason - whether someone claims to have seen the weapon or not. Period. ^^ gravity is a harsh reality. ^^ |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 730810 United States 09/16/2009 06:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i'm thinking maybe they are going around and trying to catch drugs in apartments or something. I know the people on the first floor both on the right and left smoke or used to smoke pot. It's unusual though i've lived her over a year and never had a "building inspection" guy come in my apartment or seek to. The mexican lady always rides around on the golf cart so I know she works here but the guy... I will be talking to front office tomorrow and bolting my door with the chain so at least they can't come in unannounced. Hell don't you have to have a search warrant. The only thing I remember from the lease rules is that they wont come in unless they put up a notice telling you in advance. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 772372Shotguns are legal,And don't ever, ever, ever register your guns. right answer "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 642285 United States 09/16/2009 07:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | USE YOUR BRAIN! If you must let the bastard in, then put the shotgun in the closet under or behind some clothes where he'd have to work to find it. It's none of his business what you own. Fire arms are lawful in most states unless you're carrying them in a concealed fashion. Here in Arizona I drive around all day long with a gun on the front seat of my car - and yes, it is loaded. If I get stopped, I put it on the dashboard and tell the cop that it is there (I do remove the clip before putting it on the dash and lay the clip clearly beside the pistol. Never been hassled. One asked "why" and I said that I often carry large sums of cash on the way to the bank or go into dicey areas where his buddies and he (the cops) don't like responding to calls much. So rather than wait for them, if I'm in trouble that thing can possibly get me out of it or at least out of the area. BTW: NEW YORK CITY has really tight assed gun laws and owning an unregistered fire arm there can be a problem. So if you're in NY, be careful to put it away much more thoroughly... if you know what I mean. Check your lease and make sure you have to let this asshole in. If you do, demand the required notice for non-emergency entry and insist on being present when he's there. He can look at the issue he's checking. Not go on a full search routine. DO NOT COUNT ON YOUR LAND LADY OR BUILDING PEOPLE TO STAY WITH THIS GUY OR MONITOR WHAT HE DOES IN YOUR PLACE> BETTER TO BE THERE YOURSELF> |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 730810 United States 09/16/2009 11:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My hackles are raised a bit now after talking to the wife. She said he should have had to show some ID. Where we live is getting more and more ghetto lately including a family of I dunno 6 grown Mexican men living downstairs in a 1 bedroom apartment. They are always outside when she comes how and they are always watching people come and go. I plan to call the front office tomorrow to see if this building inspection crap is legit. I'm put off by how this guy just kinda nonchalantly said don't worry we have a key to get in if your not home. She could be working with this guy and stealing from apartments or something in the worst case scenario. I've also had the black guy that lives downstairs up on my landing according to my wife looking around but the dogs were growling and he left. I swear man if any of them steps in this house with no warning I will shoot and consider it a home invasion. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 772935 United States 09/17/2009 12:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | oh and remember if you do use deadly force. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 772372a dead guy can't sue you, so make the first shot count. Yeah, but his estate can sue, so don't use deadly force unless you are threatened with deadly force or a home invasion type scenario, i.e. defense of yourself or a 3rd person from death or serious bodily injury. Go buy two giant steel cross bolts and put them on your door. They can only be opened and closed by someone on your side of the door. Or, just use a chair. This would only work if your on the inside. If you're leaving, put your gun away so he doesn't tell his theiving buddies. Shotgun is legal. No such thing as per se gun registration. |
