BRIEF AND TO THE POINT User ID: 779727 United States 10/04/2009 10:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Since the Amish live a simple life style, how do they afford to pay taxes (as expensive as taxes are these days on large properties)? Quoting: pa resident 773137Why do you think they sell all those delicious foods, and look at the awesome quality of their quilts. I buy beef jerky from them all the time. Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it! when you rob Paul to give to Peter ... ... ... you will always get Peters support! :Brieffromnativea: |

watchdog User ID: 466967 United States 10/04/2009 11:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Actually the the land they have probably qualifies for the Clean and Green act which lowers the taxes on land for farmers. Most of the property tax is on the structures. If you have a nice house you get screwed. If you have a junky old farm house with no plumbing or electricity it will be appraised very low. So the govt gives people an incentive to lower the value on their property so they dont have to pay so much... In Virginia we have a car tax that gives people the incentive to drive Clampett mobiles instead of a nice new car with high value... This tax also helped put the car companies out of business. Govt helps? I dont think so!
